It can be either on the left hand side or on the right hand side. Make sure that its on the side that has a dot that indicates its on. You'll notice the Wi-Fi on the dashboard/panel its lit.

Please comment if the information has been useful to improve my support assistance. Thank you and regards.

I disabled the wireless (wi-fi) using the shortcut key.now i want to access wi-fi but unable to start using the shortcut key..wht exactly happened? did the driver had been uninstalled or wht? plz tell wht...

It should toggle. I don't think the driver would get uninstalled. Usually it's a switch (on Acer) or a Fn (Wifi icon Button) that turns Wifi on or off.

You may have to search for networks by clicking on the signal bars on the bottom right part of your screen, in order to connect to the Wifi network that is at your location.

I HAVE A DELL INSPIRON 1525 & I DNT SEE ANYTHING WITH WIFI. HOW DO I CONNECT TO WIFI IF I DONT SEE THE ICON?

Hi,

Click Start > on the Start Search type ncpa.cpl then press enter > right click on wireless connection > click connect/disconnect then there will be another window, click on connect to a network and then you will see there list of wifi networks, choose one the connect to it, if youre not able to see any network, that means that the wireless capability of you laptop is off, check the wireless switch or try to press Fn F5.

Hope this will help... Please rate YES...

Hi,
Connect your laptop to the internet using Wifi (obviously network connection not available due to your problem) and update the drivers for the network adaptor. Can you use a free Wifi point somewhere to connect via Wifi to help with the driver issue?
There will be a yellow exclamation mark next the network adaptor problem in the WINXP System Properties. To get here right click on My Computer, then select Properties, then Hardware, then Device Manager. Find the offending network card problem, double click the device, Select Driver, then Update Driver. Let WINXP find the driver from the internet.
Alternatively, check the driver you downloaded from the Dell support webpage. Are you sure it was the correct driver for WINXP for the same model of network card fitted to your Dell 6400? A message about incompatible hardware means you are trying to use drivers on hardware which is not compatible with that driver. That is a good sign that you dont have the right drivers.
Go to Dell here: http://support.dell.com/support/ and select Drivers and Downloads.
Try this link here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&catid=5&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=DRVR&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400%2FE1505&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

Ask me for more help.
Cheers,

Hello Mpquinn,

The first thing that I would advise you to do is,

Uninstall the WiFi Adapter totally from the System first,

(For WIndows XP)

Right-Click on my computer Icon, Properties-->Hardware-->Device Manager,

select the WiFi Adapter under network adapters, and right click on it, then select uninstall

Next, Click on Action on that Same page, and select "scan for hardware changes",

This will bring up a prompt to install the new hardware found (Which is your Wifi Adapter).

(For WIndows Vista)

Right-Click on my computer Icon, go to

Properties-->>Device Manager, select the WiFi Adapter under network adapters, and right click on it, then select uninstall

Next, Click on Action on that Same page, and select "scan for hardware changes",

This will also bring up a prompt to install the new hardware found (Which is your Wifi Adapter).

After this, Press your Wifi button on the system and ensure that it is On, then Scan for wireless networks.

It should connect like that.

Try this out and kindly let me know how it goes,

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Goodluck

WiFi turns itself off

Hi Troy,
Don't know if this will work with your Dell, but on my Averatec, I had to do the following.
Go to Start>Right click on My Computer and select Properties. Click on the Hardware tab, and Device manger. Click on + by the Network Adapters. Right click on your wireless, Intel or Broadcom wireless adapter, and click on Advanced. Findd the Minimum Power Consumption and make sure it is disabled. If you have a Power Management tab, click on it, and uncheck both boxes.

Good Luck!
