Wireless light won't turn on on my Compaq Presario F500. I had a connection and the light was blue. Now the light stays red when the switch is on or off and I have no internet connection.

does my presario r3000 have wireles? when i click into the network connections, the wireless adapter icon does is not revealed.

Same issue, just stopped working. wont light up when pushing button and says no wireless connections found. I am on one now with other computer so I know its working!!! Uhhhgg

  • fyrewerx Dec 28, 2008

I am usually able to get the connection re-established by deleting the connection host from the listed wireless networks in MS Wireless Properties. Then reboot. Then add my home wireless network back in. Its a pain in the **** to have to reconfigure the WPA encryption every time.

If your volume buttons don't work either this should help. Place your laptop on a table and press down on the lower right of the computer(under the arrows near the microphone and headphone symbol) or clamp down on the battery compartment (center). The blue light on the corner should illuminate, if it's off press the network button while putting pressure(the indented one on the right front edge) you shoud hear a double ping sound. I put a thick felt pad between the battery and the computer and now everthing works. I know it sounds really STUPID but it works.

GOOD LUCK

Richard.

Richard hotkiss is right; the problem lies with the mechanical action of the buttons themselves, not with some fried electronics or flawed driver software. Another solution is to take a capped ballpoint pen and use it to push the button- gently at first, then with slowly increasing pressure. This works every time for me. Perhaps the steady even pressure is what is making the difference? After doing this a few times I find that the buttons are "loosened up" enough that I can operate them without the pen for a while.

*** PROBLEM FIXED! hotkiss (Richard) is right!!! I had the same problem with my wireless button - not turning on my wireless and I wasn't even able to see the blue light next to it (just in the right corner), even my volume buttons weren't working. He is right.. while pressing just on top of them i can finally use them.... my wireless button and light work too. but remember you have to keep pressure on top of them to work. Thanks Richard!

Is the Wireless Network Adapter turned on? Most laptops have a small switch near the Wireless Network Adapter's light that turns it on and off so people can't gain access to a laptop wirelessly during travel or whenever it won't be used.

Where is wireless connection switch on Compaq Presario R3000?

Well if u have the same exact one as myself.
The wireless button is on the front right near the corner. above it and on the corner is the wireless symbol. If its working it should be lit blue. push it and see if it lights up blue for a few seconds. You should get a wireless connection confirmation on the screen.

hope this helps you

Compaq presario wireless button no longer working

There is a mechanical problem with the R3000 wireless button and volume-down button where they seem to push fine but are in fact failing to make electrical contact. I know of two work-arounds.
* Try pushing the button with a capped pen, gently at first, and then with increasing pressure. (Not so hard you break the plastic, please!) I suspect this gives the buttons just enough extra "oomph" that contact is established.
OR
* Push up on the battery compartment while pressing the buttons. If the battery is in, you can acheive this same effect by putting your laptop on a table and popping up the screen, then applying downwards pressure on that corner of the laptop body while pushing the button. I suspect this aligns things properly so that the button is able to depress just a hair further.

You may even find that these actions "loosen things up" enough to cause the buttons to work like new for a little while. I hope this works for anyone reading this!

Compaq presario R3000

first of all it is a laptop or a desktop computer/
if it is a laptop, the answer is no. it is a surface mounted on/off sw. consumer do't have the equipment to rework that.
if it is a desktop. go to radio shack and get a on/off sw and replace it
hop that helps

Wireless connection

Hi, what you will need is a PCMCIA wireless card or usb wireless stick, these can purchased pretty cheaply these days from the likes of ebay or your local computer shop should be able to sort you out. PCMCIA would be the one I would choose as these just slot into an empty bay and once installed, can be left there. Hope this helps, if not give me a shout and I'll see what else I can do. Si :)
