Question about Whirlpool Duet 7.0 Cu. Ft. Super Capacity Plus Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Our dryer started squealing 2 weeks ago and I was able to isolate the problem coming from the tensioner pulley. I can get this part from a local appliance parts store but I was needing some advise on how to replace it. I was able to lubricate it going from the front of the dryer. Should I go in from the back of the dryer to replace it? What is the best way to do this? I would appreciate your help in replacing this part. Thanks!

The model No. is WED8410SW0. I believe that the pulley is the problem because when I lubricated it, the squealing stopped. I had talked to the people at the appliance supply store who recommended that I try some WD40 on the pulley and the rollers individually to see which will stop the squealing and I started with the pulley which stopped it. It started to squeal again after 9 days of use and I lubricated it again which again quieted it down. So, I figured that it must be the pulley. So, I went ahead and bought the pulley and was going to replace it. I was asking how to go about doing it. The belt appears to be okay. Thanks for your help!

What is the model number? what is it you are replacing u never say. this is likely a belt problem not a tesioner pulley issue, they seldom fail.

I was able to replace the pulley, fortunately it had the older pulley system not the glider and fix the dryer before your response came. It would have been nice if I had it before tearing it apart on my own! Thanks anyway!

I need to explain something about fixya, no expert on Fixya is a employee of fixya, we are technician's who do this in our spare time to help out and save u $'s, the amount of money we get for this problem for instance is $2.00 (US), so the effort won't make us rich, but the point is we have other things going on, we don't set at the computer, we check back from time to time, sorry for the delay but that is the way the system works, I tried to help.

Could either be the drum rollers or the idler pulley have to remove the drum the idler pulley is the one that maintains tension on the drum belt

Squealing noise

Sounds like one of your pulleys is bad. Alternator, water pump, don't know till you find it. You say you have more than one belt-try taking one off at a time, run engine for a couple of minutes and see if squealing goes away. Maybe you can isolate it that way.
If belts are off, you could spin each pulley by hand to see if you could catch the one that is bad. Any little wobble or play in any of the pulleys would be very suspect as the likely bad one.

My 2007 avalon squeals every time I put the AC on? What should I do?

Make sure its simply not the A/C tensioner thats gone bad. You might just have to replace that one. There's absolutely no reason a belt should be the culprit unless it is tearing or ripped so you can look for wear and tear on the belts. Most likely a pulley is out of alignment or the pulley bearing is just starting to squeal when it gets wet. But it can still squeal if its dry outside.

Take the belt off and spin it with your hand, if it squeaks, its bad. I had to replace one years ago, they just go bad. Make sure the A/C compressor isn't whats squealing too, and the other top pulleys too. Sometimes you can be fooled on where the squeal is really coming from. Spin everything that can be spun, by hand.

The dryer squeals on start up and quiets after 40 seconds or so. I took it apart and the belt and pulley seem ok. How do I know if they are worn? I thought it was a problem with the felt liner at either...

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

you have a drum bearing, going bad, or your belt tension pully. it stops squealing because the unit heats up and the metal expands. you can also try spraying (WD40) the belt tension pulley..

Maytag electric dryer is making a high pitched noise

The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

Dryer squeals closer to end of cycles

Hello.

It will either be a drum roller or the belt tension pulley. Most dryers sell there parts seperately but Whirlpool sells a kit that has the rollers, pulley and the belt with a decent instruction sheet on how to do it. If you go to www.sears.com and click parts direct, there will be a place to enter your model number and get ahold of the parts you need.

Major electrical problems, and then some...

If its still squealing after you have replace the belt, it is likely that one of the idler or tensioner pulley bearings have went out. You can pull the belt off and then try and wiggle the idler and tensioner pulleys and if any of them have wobble in them then that is the one that needs to be replaced.
