Dave, Any AC 110V motor will work off any AC generator of sufficient power. But I can't make sense of the second part of your question - "or does it have to through a generator?"

Oooops! Sorry i ment does it have to go through a transformer from a 240v supply, I hired out a Hilti last week and the thing stopped working on me, some ppl say some Hilti equipment doesnt work well off a generator due to the electronics inside the machine, the generator surges fry it, so its better to put it through the transformer.......

    Dave,
Sounds to me like somebody had a bad generator, but I don't know the Hilti tools. Could be legit. You might want to ask the question again to get some more answers.

Will my 240v charger work on 110v

Can't say for certain, but there are specific 110V and 220V versions of DCB101.
None are labelled 90-220VAC as would be normal for universal voltage equipment.
If you operate 110V equipment on 220V then you will most likely damage it with overvoltage.
If you operate 220V equipment on 110V then you will most likely damage it in over current or have it simply not work.

It is possible that the charger is universal, just not labelled as such.

I am trying to find a dynamo that gives 110v with low rpm, can you please advice me how?

Ceiling fans, stair landings, over the front door bulbs can all be changed infrequently with these bulbs. Make sure you never install a 12 Volt led bulb in a 120 Volt socket as it will damage the bulb. Choose correctly, enjoy the lighting and save time and money.Maybe you like it.

We just bought a 1978 ford sportsman motorhome. It runs great the generator works but we cant get the fridge to work. It was winterized I dont think its broken but Im just not sure what Im doing wrong.

the fridge in my camper wont work on 110V either , and I have been told to replace the element that heats the (amonia) coolant. I never use the 110V anyways so i havn't fixed it. Fridge works fine on Gas , but it takes quite a while for these evaporative type of fridge to produce noticable cold. Very much a different system that your household fridge.

Hi, Surely that is the correct output? Gensets usually put out 240 and 110 or just 110. Alan

Suzuki SE4000SED generator with no output

There was a day and time when generators were simple. There were no capacitors, regulators to control/adjust power to magnet or ground fault outlets. Winding getting hot indicates short, however could be bad capacitors. Rectifiers and capacitors must be removed from circuit to test properly. Here is a simple test that I use to find fault area. I use a small power supply (16v AC 1 amp like doorbell transformer) into the 110v outlet of generator. This should energize the armature magnet and actually produce voltage at commutator with brushes pulled off. You can slowly pull the starter rope to move the armature into a different positon the voltage will vary. If the ac windings are shorted there will be very little or no magnet. There is a seperate 110 v circuit at the 220v outlet to test (there are two 110v windings that make up the 220v outlet, one is also used for the 110v outlet). There is another winding that products voltage for the regulator that powers the magnet thru the brushes but I think that circuit is porbably working because of the heat in the windings. You might even have 110v power at the 220v outlet. As our parents told us over and over, be careful when working with electricity. Enjoy

North Star 5500/ lost one leg of the 220v

Small generators like this almost always have 2 stator windings 180 degrees out pf phase, that's how it makes the 220.
At the back (maybe side) of the outlet box should be a molex type plug that has the wires from the stator, get an ohm meter and measure them (with the generator shut off of course). You should find that you've got 4 wires in the plug, 1 wire for each end of 2 coils. From one end to the other of each coil you should measure less than an ohm, between the coils there is usually no connection, but some models have the neutral ends of each coil connected together inside the generator housing.

It sounds to me like you've got one of the power windings open...
