Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

Hi I have a Samsung CLX 6210FX colour laser multifunction running straight ethernet connection via a switch. I have one desktop on the switch and a notebook via wireless both running windows 7 OS. Often when I print, the printer times out after a few pages of a document and prints out an error sheet with the following on it. PCL6 Error-incomplete session by timeout Position: 0x3a37831 (61044785) I think this part varies however. System: XLPGP/os_hook Line: 2875 Version : PCL6 6.45 09-19-2009 the machine then restarts the document from the start only to do it again numerous times. Its not uncommon to have to recycle 20+ sheets of paper which is less then desirable. please let me know if there's more information required. I bought the machine secondhand but was only a few months old so I sort of winged it with installation, is there something I should have installed? Regards, Ashley

Hi just a few basics please, how do you set static IPs on windows machines? Also do I need to turn off the DHCP in the router if I'm going to do this?

Also how do you check event logs? I can print the ones in the printers memory I did notice that as an iption in the thrusync web portal.

Sorry to be difficult I'm new to all this networking with printers.

    Hi again,

I have changed the settings to "begin printing after last page has spooled" this seems to have resolved the issue. what does this mean for my system?

  • ashleyharvey Aug 24, 2010

disregard my last the issue is still present it did it again after I changed the spooling setting :(

  • ashleyharvey Aug 24, 2010

I have looked at every setting available in the samsung web portal and nothing relates to spooling so I do not know what to do now. I also dont really understanding much of this spooler stuff

  • ashleyharvey Aug 24, 2010

the drivers I have are the newest ones available from samsung and are listed as win 7 compat. I'll run a full system scan on both my machines.

You are having problems due to your switch, you have a timing problem, within that switch. It's NOT syncing, (Usually the frame sync) 100% all the time, and this causes the printer to loose that timing signal, and of course, it cannot recover. It will, often then reset itself, and try to do it all again, only to usually, simply time out once more, this happens especially on long documents.
The fix, use a Router and NOT a switch, or replace the Switch, with another.

I would also advise to obtain the latest drivers too, and install them, again.
First, though, remove the old one completely via, Add/Remove Programs.

Hope this helps explain it all.

You have one of 2 problems. 1st, You may have installed drivers not fully compatible with Win 7. Check the Samsung web site for any driver updates and do a re-install. (make sure do run an uninstall first). 2nd. The printer error and recycling is a strong indicator of a virus (a worm actually). Run a full system scan and remove any problems found.

Regarding your last note, by printing after last page is spooled. That simply means your document won't start to print until the entire thing has been sent to the print buffer.

I would look t your network properties as a great starting point.

My first step would be to assign static IP's to each computer and double check the subnet's too along with any workgroup, domain setting to ensure that all are matched in.

When assigning IP's in a small network I tend to use steps of 10 eg.
192.168.1.10
192.168.1.20
etc. this allows me to add extra network equipment on specific boxes such as WI-fi and so on.

Also double check every setting on the printer as network printers are not as tolerant with minor errors as many computers are. Quite often a computer on even a different subnet can still operate within a different subgroup if the correct protocols are installed but may still exhibit issues with file transfers etc.

As an additional check find out if it is using the local computers spooling or the printers spooling and try swap that over as it could be as simple as a buffer overflow on the printer

The error itself is not as descriptive as I would like to see so maybe check event logs on the computers to see if they shed any light on the matter

OK lets start with IP addressing

There is a decent tutorial here

    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/...

I leave DHCP on my router enabled and just use a server as a backup unit but that probably does not apply to you

to check the computers event log open the control panel.

    Now select administrative tools

from there just select event viewer

The actual event could be listed under different areas but looking under "error" or "application" would be a good place to start.

Once you have narrows it down take note of the EVENT ID and by simply typing "event id xxxx" in a browser you will be pointed to lots of ways to fix them but pay more attention to these if they are listed with Microsoft or Samsung.

Hard to give you much more on event ID's as there are too many variables to give you direct information but it does point you in the right direction and adds a new skill to your list of computer fixing ability.

Static IP's is a great start as it takes a few thing out of the equation and I will presume you got all the rest of the network setting checked too ?

I did say that sorting the event ID's was up to you.

I figured you would be able to deal with some of this.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libra...

That is the MS page for the error code and you should start there and eliminate the error as directed

Once you have sorted those out let me know where you are at.

  • ashleyharvey Aug 24, 2010

I have followed that FAQ from MS that you sent me and worked through the fixes. None of them were helpful, they either didnt apply or related to updated the driver which I did and still at square one. There was only one event log on my machine relating to Samsung and print services.

I cannot manipluate spooler setting from here but it would appear we have narrowed the area right down even if only breifly.

This is one of those issues that from here is very hard to nail down without being on site or having direct access which FixYa forbids.

All I can suggest is that there are other spooler setting that can be manipulated to investigate further BUT in view of the fact that it exists on more than one computer I would be looking at any spooler / buffer settings on the printer itself.

Reason is to eliminate you having to change settings on every computer to accomodate a single printer.

Dang more issues wuth this darn website I nearly missed your last comment entirely.

It is as I pointed out. I cannot remote into your computer and even less likely is that I can remote into the printer itself and thats what you need is a first hand tech in situ to finish up.

The only thing I can advise from here on in is that you alter one setting at a time with regard to spooling or printer buffering on the printer itself but write down what you change and the effect it has so that you can if needed revert the change.

From here on in it is just a process of elimination that only you can deal with as you are there and I am not.

We know its a spool/buffer issue.

you might have accidentally press on some button when the power is on, you may try to switch off the power of the printer for 5min and then back on, if you still getting the low heat error most likely is the fuser issue and you need to change the fuser by samsung only.
