Question about JVC Video Cameras

1 Answer

Even after doing the factory reset there is no longer an image in the viewfinder when i want to record (other than camera signs including "lens cap" even though it is removed!) and there is no image recorded when i record. The recorded image is all black. The camera is 3 years old but hasn't been used very much. Perhaps there was a humidity problem as it was stored two weeks at 85%? Can it be fixed or must i replace with new camera? Thanks

It sounds like the imaging sensor has broken. This is a fairly major repair so depending on initial cost most likely it will be more worth your time and money to just replace the camera. If you need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

possible ccd issue.screen indicators for sure is ok, and viewfinder would show same black screen.this model is included in a recall by sony because of a defect in the ccd imaging sensor years back.but sad to say the program (and even the extension for it) is no longer available for all affected camcorder models. now it only includes the dsct1 and dscf717 dig cams.i.m sorry this unit would need replacement of the ccd imaging sensor.hope this info helps.thanks.

Dark viewfinder

Reset the camera to factory settings.

If still you have the problem, use a different se of lens.

It seems the iris is not working properly in the lens.

Try in clean the lens and the camera contacts too.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.
