Hey all and thank you for setting up such a great website for us fans of Sony products!
I have an issue with my Sony VPL-HS20 projector and would love to know 2 things. I'm now to using projectors and hope it's not too late to get some much need words of wisdom.
I received a message sometime ago saying the the filter needed to be cleaned whcih I dismissed from the screen hoping that it would appear at a time when I didn't have guests over to watch a movie. I have not seen it since and would like to know how to best go abouts doing this.
Also, my projector is making a horrendous noise when I turn it on and seems to be coming from the fan on the side where the control buttons are. Has anyone else experienced this and know how to deal with it as I'm a bit worried.
What is the best way to take care of a projector in terms of cleaning and routine maintenance?
Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks for reading and keep up the amazing work!
Stevie.

Am in the process of finding out how much it will cost to have my projector serviced so it will help me resolve the issue of a bit of manual maintenance however, to help eliminate the issue of the unusual buzzing, am I correct in understanding that I keep the whole unit where it is and using the nozzle of a vacum, **** out any dust which may be there...if that's the case then that's a genius idea and never knew that such a thing is possible!
Or are you saying to remove the filter out completely and then vacum? I'm just a wee bit puzzled but hope that it will be taken care of soon as I miss my movie nights in!
Many thanks once again, Stevie.
To get the best time out of your Projector and your lamp , you should take in your Projector at least twice a year for a service.
If you want to clean out the filters , simply take a vacuum cleaner and vacuum the dust out.
As for the fan , this could be as a result of dust , but I would suggest you have it checked out by a Sony Service Provider as fan malfunction is the biggest cause of lamps blowing.
Also try not to run the Projector for short periods at a time as this simply eats away on your lamp. Rather leave it running for longer periods a Projector's lamp is similar to the lamp's you use in your house - switching on and off all the time makes the lamp's fillament weak - Take my word on this , I've had please using the Projector to watch a odd movie now and then and they only get 500 - 1000 hours on their lamps. And then I've had clients who use their Projectors as TV's and they got 10 000 - 15000 hours on their lamps.
Hope this is of help and thanks for using Fixya !
