I have a broken szsr on my dell latitude d600 but cannot find the correct part number to find a replacement. It is the bracket that holds the screen onto the base of the laptop.

Visit this page on the dell website, enter your service tag number (there is a help feature that explains where to find the service tag). And search for your replacement part.

Dell latitude lcd screen lamp dims

It could be 3 things:

1) Windows settings:
  • Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."
  • Click "Power Options."
  • Click "Choose when to turn of the display" located in the left-hand sidebar of the Control Panel interface.
  • Set "Dim the display" to "Never" for "On battery" and "Plugged in" and then click "Save."
2) Ambient light sensor:
Some latitudes come with an ambient light sensor which automatically changes your brightness depending on ambient light. Toggle it on/off by holding down the Fn key and then pressing the Left arrow key.

3) Brightness turned down.
Latitudes all have adjustable brightness, press the Fn key plus the up/down keys to adjust. Some old latitudes have this setting on the F5/F6 keys instead of up/down. Look for blue icons that looks like lit and unlit suns.

If the above fail, your CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp) tube in your screen is possibly going bad. They are $10-$20 on ebay and pretty easy to replace. Just search for "CCFL" on ebay and include the exact latitude model you have. All CCFL tubes use the same power, just the length matters, but people on ebay include model numbers so you can be sure it will be an exact fit with your laptop.

Replacing the CCFL is easy, you will need a phillips screw driver, and possibly a shim/flat-head screw driver, that's it. Just watch a related youtube video by searching for "how to replace ccfl latitude" for a number of good step-by-steps.

I need to reboot my laptop but don't have the disc it's a dell D600 latitude

I've tried doing a search online using the details you gave and I came up with the following page that you might want to check out:
http://www.user-guides.co.uk/download/dell/delllatitude/dell-latitude-d600-original-recovery-disk.html What operating system are you using on your dell laptop? If your operating system is corrupted it sounds to me like you may need to reinstall windows. May I ask when you experienced this problem? When your system was working fine what was the last thing you did prior to your system not being able to boot? Could you have installed some kind of incompatible hardware or software? When you turn your computer on you could try pressing f8 or f12 and this will take you to the Advanced Options Menu. From here you can try safe mode, last known good configuration, reboot etc. I don't know if you have tried these things! If you go into safe mode and this works this will load windows with a very basic configuration. Once in windows you can unistall a piece of software if this is the last thing you did that caused your system to fail in the boot process. You also might try getting in touch with Dell. Sorry, not much help otherwise, good luck with your situation. Andrew

Installed new hard drive now will not boot

1. First of all, you must open the computer case (with power off), and werify the power cable and data cable of hdd. please detach and put them right back.
2. then power on your pc
3. you MUST press F2 for setup utility in order for correct setings of your bios. the message "strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility" came from the computer bios, not from Windows XP CD.
4. verify if you followed the correct procedure of installing an new hdd as is described on page 66 of owner's manual from dell.

"Installing a Hard Drive
1 Unpack the replacement hard drive, and prepare it for installation.
2 Check the documentation for the drive to verify that it is configured for your computer.
3 Remove the hard drive bracket (see page 64).
4 Attach the hard drive to the hard drive bracket:
a Place the small bracket tabs into the drive-securing screw holes on one side of the drive.
b Gently swing the drive toward the bracket and align the three screw holes on the other side of the
drive with the screen holes on the bracket.
c Attach the hard drive bracket to the hard drive.
d Insert and tighten all three drive-securing screws.
5 Install the hard drive:
a Place the two bracket tabs into the drive slots inside the bracket for the additional hard drive.
b Swing the bracket forward so that it is flush with the bracket for the additional hard drive.
c Replace the bracket-securing screws.
6 Connect a power cable to the drive.
7 Connect the data cable to the drive and to the system board (see page 53).
8 Close the computer cover (see page 75).
NOTICE: To connect a network cable, first plug the cable into the network wall jack and then plug it into the
computer.
9 Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and turn them on.
See the documentation that came with the drive for instructions on installing any software required for
drive operation.
10 If the drive you just installed is the primary drive, insert a bootable floppy disk into drive A.
11 Turn on the computer.
12 Enter system setup (see "System Setup" on page 80), and update the appropriate Drive option.
13 Exit system setup, and restart the computer.
14 Partition and logically format your drive before you proceed to the next step.
See the documentation for your operating system for instructions.
15 Test the hard drive by running the Dell Diagnostics (see page 36).
16 If the drive you just installed is the primary drive, install your operating system on the hard drive."

that's all
