Can you tell me the model# of your pc? Gateway Performance 1600 sounds like a memory upgeade. Do you know your BIOS manufacturer? Different manufacturers use different beep codes to mean different things. The BIOS manufacturer may show up quickl on the cgreen when you try to boot. Probably the best way is just tell me the model # of your machine and if you haven't changed anything I can just look up the specks, check what BIOS you have and then tell you what the beeps mean and what do about it. Thanks.

3 beeps - Base 64 K memory failure

  • Reseat the memory.
  • Make sure that the contacts on the memory and the socket are clean.
  • Try removing one bank of memory modules at a time. Note: Some systems might need to have a memory module in Bank 0.
  • Try using RAM chips from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed.
  • Check for a faulty memory module by trying the memory in a known good system.
  • Trying known good memory in the system.
  • Check the power supply and check for power fluctuations.
  • Swap the motherboard.
This does not apply to all mobo's. can you tell me the brand and model of your mobo (motherboard)

X58 pro e hard to cold start

Three long beeps may signify a keyboard error, and 3 short may refer to memory error. These are best guesses, because MSI uses several BIOS manufactures. Test your RAM one chip at a time to help isolate bad dimm.

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

All i get is a beeping My gt5220 will not boot...help

Does there seem to be a pattern to the beeps? (long beep, pause, long beep or 3 beeps and a pause) The codes will depend on the motherboard and BIOS manufacturer. One of the Gateway code lists: http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/WMEBLKD925XBCLK/WMEBLKD925XBCLKfaq17.shtml .

One beep is a CPU error. Three beeps is a memory error - you can remove and reseat the memory one stick at a time to find a bad stick causing them all to fail. Eight beeps is a video error.

I hope this helps.

Motherboard beeps three times, computer won't boot up

Your computer is experiencing memory problems. Turn power off, remove and reseat the memory chips, and try it again. If not successful, try different memory chips. Also could be power supply problem

Problem booting

Hi,

Any beep code from pheonix starting with two beeps relates to ram issues. If you have treid swapping the ram and it only gives the first 2 beeps then most likely the RAM controller on the north bridge or the data channels themselves are damaged on the motherboard.

You can try running a single chip of ram in each slot at seperate attempts. If it is a data channel damaged this will bypass the problem although it will cripple the laptops performance. Either way, the only permanent and proper fix would be to replace the oBo which I doubt would be cost effective on this unit.

Gateway c140 beeps

If you have an AMI bios (you can tell when you boot and the black screen has writing on it at startup - the bios type and version is the first thing at the top of the screen)
1 long and 3 short beeps indicates that the memory is not seated properly. You should check that it is secure on your motherboard. If it is seated securely, your memory is maybe faulty.
