ILO Recorder DVD05R - Playback jumps 10min, 20 min and more...
Hi, I have this ILO unit for over 3 years now...I was wondering if anyone had issues like this one or have some ideas how to fix it..
Recording any DVD is no problem...but when I want to play back the clock starts at 10:00:00 (instead of 00:00:00) and after 2 or minutes of play it start jumping 10 minutes, 20 minutes sometimes 40 mintes...sometimes the playback freezes in the middle of it and after 5 minutes or so it skips another 30 minute and jump ahead...watching movies is now became unpleasent experience with this unit.
Does the disc still play in other dvd player? My ILO has always been picky to play rentals so I just have a cheap COBY player hooked up to front inputs of my ILO. I use it to watch the dvds, only use the Ilo to record. Saves wear and tear on my ILO but cannot find a universal remote to operate them both and my tv. If it still records okay thats what I would do, just watch the discs in a secondary unit. Sounds like time to start shopping for new recorder.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Depending on the format of the DVDs you record, some may not be compatible for playback on other DVD players, even if you FINALISE the disc in this recorder before playing it anywhere else. Assuming you are using the correct DVD format (for example, DVD-R), did you finalise the disc in this recorder after transferring your tape? if not, that would be the reason why the DVD won't play in another machine (I am also assuming you have everything set up correctly to enable smooth transferring - picture, sound, etc.).
Most modern DVD players recognise various disc formats (+R/-R/-R DL etc) but all of these must be finalised in the appropriate drive prior to make playback anywhere else possible. There should be a menu option or similar on this model recorder which would allow you to finalise the recording - you should only do this if you are completely happy with what you recorded, and it turned out OK. Until you finalise the recorded disc it will not work anywhere else but the deck it was written in.
I hope there is no major issue with the deck in this unit which would prevent you from finalising your discs - and achieving some success with playback in other units. The last thing anyone would want is a batch of drink coasters.
Go to the RockBox software site. RockBox is provided freely by an end-user created and supported group and is a wonderfully evolved software replacement for quite a few portable music-playing machines. Your Archos Jukebox recorder is long out of warranty, so there's NO downside in updating it by installing the most current version of RockBox. That will greatly extend the capabilities of your machine.
Then download the RockBox user Manual! That will be your new Archos JukeBox Recorder User Manual. You'll be able to select what you hear by one of two control strategies: File names or by Playlists. You'll be able to adjust playback sound in new and more powerful ways than just using the equalizer. Also it will allow you to control playback "pitch" or speed, so you can hear lectures or books at a higher playback speed. Human retention actually improves when playback speed is increased some. You can print out the RockBox pdf. format manual if you'd like or you can study it on line. Lots of choices.
Good luck with your "obsolete" Archos JukeBox. I actually prefer the earlier models which were powered by four rechargeable AA cells rather than those with the replaceable lithium battery. I know someone who ran one of these continually for more than a year to provide background music, plugged into a wall-wart charger and his sound system. Durable! John
Hi. This tv may have an issue within its contents. This issue concerns the power supply board. to confirm this, unplug the tv from the surge protector, if any, and wait for 3 Min's. after this 3 min wait, plug this unit into a wall outlet and power up. if it dose not power up, you will defiantly have to replace the power supply board.
Humax are having problems and are starting to send out software upgrades (night-time updates) - seems to be related to the new formats on the MUXs for the digital switch-over. Our 9150T hasn't been fixed yet but due any day (I hope)
My ILO was doing the same thing, then it stopped doing it. It then suddenly would not recognize any media. I opened up the case and found it is using a dvd lite-on recorder. I had this old pc laying around with a gigabyte dvd recorder in it. For a test, I unplugged the lite-on and plugged in the gigabyte recorder. On power up, it seemed to work fine. After recording 3 DVD's I modified the case to accept the hew recorder. ** problems since, its not pretty, but it was easy to get the unit functional again.
The unit is not finishing the start up diagnostic. This could be forseveral reasons. The most common problem with the Ilo04 is power supply. On the power supply board check the two big capacitors to see if they are swollen or leaking. If so then change them and try that.
You have the wrong firmware,or cd is corrupted. These Liteon recorders have had some issues with the timers. The 5005xa can actually be transformed into the Ilo R04.Look on internet the Wizard has free firmware for your unit, look for iLO R04 which is almost identical to your unit.
If the remote is broke they are easy to replace ,if the recorder is a 5005xa the remote is a clone to ones used in the iLO RO4,used ones can be bought on Ebay for $10 to $20.If it is 5005XSA use the Liteon Rm 51 remote. The Gateway AR 230 recorder and some of the Akai remotes are clones to the Liteon5005XSA remotes.
The laser is either dirty or is starting to go.These lasers in this model usually only last two years. To clean but a commercial disc cleaner philips or Maxell work good in this model.Put a drop of rubbing alcohol on brushes this helps clean laser.I would do this every 15 hours of use .The best way to clean laser is to rub gently with a Qtip soaked in rubbing alcohol but this requires some technical knowledge for you have to open burner. If you attempt this make certain electrical plug is pulled lasers cause nasty burns.
If laser is going you can replace the burner/loader unit, this model uses a 411s or 451s Liteon burner. The 401s and 813s will also work without problem.
