Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

When I plug in the AC adapter, I do not have a good contact. The red light on the back of the battery blinks on and off when I move the connector to the DVD player. (GPX PDL805).

The AC outlet has power. The problem seems to be at the connection to the DVD player.

How soon can I expect a reply?

  • Vernon198 May 05, 2008

I have tried several outlets. It's not a power problem. It is either the connector on the AC adaptor or it is the connection to the DVD player.

I have taken the unit back to the store and they replaced it.

Charger seems to have both red and green lites flashing at the same time no sequence and both batteries connected read 4.0 VDC, are these chargers repariable or throw aways

Your manual is here. The section on charging states, that green blinking means your battery is fully charged but blinking red means that your charger is faulty. I would say repairable.

1. Plug the female connector of the AC power cord (supplied) to the AC receptacle on the charger and plug in the male connector on the AC power cord into the wall outlet.

2. The On/Off LED indicator is blinking RED, this is abnormal. Unplug AC power cord from the on-board battery charger and wall outlet. Charger may need to be replaced. Contact an Invacare dealer or qualified technician.

3. When the On/Off LED indicator light is Off, charger is Off.

4. When the Charge LED indicator light is YELLOW, the batteries are charging.

5. When the Charge LED indicator light is solid GREEN, the batteries are fully charged (as their condition will allow).

6. When charging is complete, unplug the male connector of the AC power cord from the wall outlet and then unplug the female connector of the AC power cord from the AC receptacle on the charger.

If AC cord has connector to power block verify it is properly seated.
plug adapter into AC outlet
Verify Power is present at power connector with another similar computer or voltmeter. (12V to 20V)
When plugged into computer, charge (not power) indicator MUST light either red, amber, or green. If not, connector on computer may be broken.

Hi Kenneth,
Have you checked to see if the charge connector on the laptop is loose when you plug the charger into it? You can see if it is by plugging it in and wiggle it around a bit. The charge light on the laptop might stop blinking if its moved and contact is made.

Thanks,
Gary

Tha half moon light blinks green, standby light also blinks with battery light orange light when charger is connected to my thinkpad t61p ,no booting

Step 1:
Try removing the battery from the back and then running it directly through the AC adapter. Sometimes the battery and AC adapter have conflicts and it can cause a laptop to become inoperable.

If this doesn't fix the problem in any way, I would recommend trying a new battery or AC adapter.
hope this helps Take the battery out, plug in the charger and see if the laptop works. If it works, the battery may be the problem. Check the AC Adapter
Check to make sure the adapter is plugged securely into the wall outlet, connected firmly to the adapter box and to the back of your laptop. Most AC adapters have a little light in them on that rectangular box in the middle of the cord that lights up when it's getting electricity. If that light isn't on, try a different outlet. Check your fuse or circuit breaker box and plug a different device into that outlet to make sure there is power to it. If it still does not light up, your adapter could need replacing. Also check the adapter box for signs of warmth, as it will generate heat when it's plugged in. No heat means no power.

Remove the Battery Sometimes it's as simple as a seated battery. Remove the battery entirely and clean out any dust, lint or hair that may be clogging the connectors and preventing a proper connection. Reseat the battery securely and make sure the little locking pins that hold your battery in place are securely fastened and there is no movement.

AC adapter power connection LED blinks but not charging

This suggests to me that you need to check out the AC adapter, and see if there is an intermittent short. In otherwords a break in the wires.

AC adapter unplugged from laptop, and power, remove the AC power cord from the body of the AC adapter.

Use a multimeter set to OHM's, (1K), and connect the Positive (Red) probe lead to one of the flat bladed prongs, in the power plug that plugs into the surge protector.

Touch the Negative (Black) probe lead to one of the holes in the plug, that goes into the AC adapter 'body'.
Keep going from hole to hole, until you get a reading.
Now have an assistant gently wiggle the power cable, and see if you get an intermittent reading.

Do the same for the other plug's flat bladed prong.
Intermittent reading means replace the power cable, or if more feasible, the entire AC adapter.

Power cable proves to be fine, move on.
Plug the power cable back into the AC adapter. Plug the AC adapter into power.
Using a multimeter set to DC Voltage, touch the Positive (Red) probe lead of the multimeter, to the center hole of the plug that goes into the laptop.
(If just a symbol, the DC Voltage symbol is a dotted line over a solid line)

The Negative (Black) probe lead, touches the outside cylindrical metal shell, of the plug.
Have an assistant gently wiggle the cable, and see if there is an intermittent reading on the multimeter.
(Reading should be 18.5 Volts DC)

[There are Analog multimeters which have a scale, and a needle, and Digital multimeters that just have a digital readout.
If using an Analog multimeter the needle will drop towards 0.
If using a Digital multimeter the readout will drop to smaller numbers, or 0 ]

AC adapter checks out? Go on.

The port on your laptop where the AC adapter plugs in, is the DC Power Jack.
AC adapter unplugged from laptop, Battery removed.
Take a pencil, and gently use the eraser end to see if you can wiggle, the center pin of the DC Power Jack.

ANY perceptible movement means a problem with the DC Power Jack.
The GOOD news is that the DC Power Jack, is NOT soldered directly to the motherboard.

It slides down in a Channel on the outside edge of the Base Enclosure, and has a wiring harness coming from it.
The end of the wiring harness has a plug, that plugs into the motherboard.

The HP part number for this DC Power Harness is HP 600630-001

This is a link to a free Service Manual from HP Support,

Page 73 is for the Power Connector Cable.

No damage to the DC Power Jack, and the harness is not slightly unplugged?
Now you have real problems.

You have a bad Power MOSFET,

C) http://mayohardware.blogspot.com/2010/04/important-parts-on-dv6000-and-dv9000.html

However it doesn't take a rocket scientist to replace. (Sorry Gort)
These SMD's use a J-lead contact. Simple unsoldering, and soldering.

(Better be fast though as you don't want to overheat a power transistor. Better be good, because you don't want any cold solder joints)

Battery light is blinking on the dash of my 1998 k1500 and the daytime running lights are flickering also

Check your AC Adapter plug. If it's damaged, you may be getting intermittent breaks in contact. If you're not sure if it's damaged or not, pull your battery and try to boot up with just the AC Adapter plugged in. If it doesn't shut off, it's probably a bad battery. If it does, you need to get another AC Adapter or have the plug on the machine replaced.

I got a compaq c36 it was working fine but now it wont switch on or anything do you now what it could be

1. Plug the laptop into AC power.

2. Take out the battery.

3. Try a different outlet.

4. Look for the light that indicates that the AC adapter is plugged in. If that light isn't on, try plugging and unplugging the AC power jack and moving it around until the light shows its connected. If no light comes on, its possible you have a bad DC jack or the AC adapter needs to be replaced.

5. If the indicator light is on and the laptop won't power on, then it's possible you have a bad switch board or stuck button. Make sure no buttons are stuck. Conversely, push hard on the power button and move it around in order to make sure you're making good contact.

6. If you know the battery has a charge, unplug the AC adapter and connect the battery. If it turns on, then you can be sure you have a bad DC jack or a bad AC adapter.

Laptop won't start

You didn't mention the brand? First, take out the battery and plug in the AC adapter. Does it boot?
Leave the battery out of the computer a couple of hours, now put it back in and connect the AC adapter. Does it boot? If you still get nothing the computer needs to see a reputable repair person.
