Question about Brother DCP-385C Stylish Colour Inkjet Multifunction Printer

2 Answers

Dear Sirs, I have a brother DCP-385C printer. Last week the black ink ran out on the printer. So I went and purchased the correct ink (LC1100BK)to replace the ink. I have installed the ink cartridge correctly (removing the yellow plastic cover etc..)and have ran the cleaning option on the printer itself on a few occasions. Still I have no luck in getting the printer to print. I would be very grateful for any assistance you could provide in helping me to fix this issue. Kind Regards, Barry Whelan

Hi Barry i find the best way to sort these things out is, to remove the new ink cartridge get a slightly damp cloth, and tap the cartridge till you get some ink on the cloth, then ( this might sound strange ) drop a blob of water into the hole of the cartridge not allot just one little drip then replace it in the printer then do a clean cycle, i have had a 90% success rate at doing this, most of the time all it is , is an air block between the cartridge and the print head, and normally this resolves the problem, make sure you do not put allot of water in the hole just a little blob...hope this helps please vote and rate thanks

    hi barry
you could try purchasing a black ink refill kit, and injecting some ink into the hole this is normally caused by an air block, you could also, just dab a bit of black ink onto the print head while the cartridge is out as well, see if it seeps through, the actual print head could be blocked with dry ink, just use the syringe from the kit to put some in, it will come out messy on the paper for a while till the ink makes its way through the print head...hope this helps

Sometimes the ink cartridges get a bit dried out. You can take a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol and dab the cartridge head, trying to soften the dried ink, and allow it to flow.
On some printers, there are key sequences you can do to try to reset any software that can be "jammed", but I couldn't find any info on the net. You might contact Brother and see if they can give you a key sequence to reset the printer, or know of another way of helping you. Here is Brother's support website:

Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.

What can I do with my printer, it will not print black? Brother DCP - 385C

Hi,

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

The black ink doesn't print. We have brother cartridges in our printer DCP 385C, and until recently it always told us when ink was running out. now it doesn't print the black ink at all and it doesn't tell...

Make sure the protective tape covering the new cartridge has been COMPLETELY removed then reinsert. Your printer should tell you that a new cartridge is inserted and ask to print a test page, align etc. Otherwise your cartridge may have a faulty chip which simply wont read.
In which case you need to return it and get a replacement.

My printer is printing blurry lines when im trying to print. grr

Are you using Inkjet paper? or normal office rag? The inkjet paper dosent let the ink soak into it and make lines look blurry, it is amade to dry the ink very fast before it can leak around... Get some good quality "inkjet" paper, you should see better results.
Leave feedback good or bad.

Brother DCP-385C is not printing the menu on the printer is telling me unable to init.70

That error code tells us that the cleaning assembly can't move up and down properly. You need to unplug machine when the carriage is in the center, look over on the right side where the printhead parks to see if there is a paper scrap, clip, or something there stopping the cleaning unit.
