Greetings mottlers4,

You can drop your camera off at any Best Buy™ store to have it evaluated by the Geek Squad®. As you indicated it is outside its manufaturer warranty, however repairs can be performed on a COD basis. I would have the store give you an estimate before they do any repairs. You may find it more economical to purchase a new unit depending on the estimate.

I hope this helps!

Thank you,

Dorothy

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

LENS AUTO FOCUS NOT WORKING

Gee I have one of these. Nice camera too.

Check you don't have the auto focus switch on the left side of the lens barrel switched to manual. I've knocked that switch when getting it out of my bag and it took me a minute to find the fault. Very easily knocked so keep an eye on it. Go through your menu and make sure everything is as it should be. If everything checks out I'm afraid it's a Sony repair agent you'll be saying hello to. I wouldn't advise trying to pull it apart yourself unles you are confident. I pulled my second one apart and had a great time getting it all alighned to put back together. Mainly because I pulled it down one week and waited another 3 weeks until I tried reassembling it. Always try to reassemble straight after fixing it. Don't give that brain time to forget important parts and where they go.
If there is a fault it would be in the lens area but after owning 2 of them and the 818s I found no problems in this area and never had a customer have any problems there either. But there's always a first time.
Try that darned switch first though. One other thing it's just possible to try. Make sure your battery is fully charged and in good health. They can cause some weird faults if the voltage is getting low. The focus motor does draw a bit of current.

There's another thought. If the auto/manual switch isn't the culprit. Actually switch it to manual and see if you can focus it by hand. If you can't then it's definitely something major and one last thing. Check your Diopter. The little adjustment alongside the viewfinder. If this is out of adjustment it will give an out of focus blurry look too.

If this has been of any help would you mind letting me know what the exact fault was. It will come in handy with mine. Thanks and good luck

Sony Cyber-shot takes lots of blurry pictures in

first thing you can do is to try reverting cam back to factory settings.to do that initialize the camera.it's under menu>setup settings>main settings1>initialize. after initializing, set cam to auto adjustment mode (green camera icon in mode dial). what to avoid when taking pictures:
1.subject too close (use macro if needed)
2.insufficient light
3.subject movement
4.camera movement (that's caused by you)
5.incorrect camera setting
5.incorrect camera operation
btw, before you take a picture, press the shutter button halfway down first to give the cam ample time to focus.you'll see a flashing green indicator on the screen that means cam is focusing.when the indicator stops blinking cam is ready for the shot.press shutter button all the way.review your picture.if still blurry, you may try changing iso (for dark or fast moving subject, note:the greater value the noisier the picture gets), metering mode and focus settings by going to the shooting menu (press menu when your in P or program mode). hope this helps.tnx:)

Turn the green screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back
Until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
2. Turn the red screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back
Until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
3. Turn the blue screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back
until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
4. If the screen still appears too bright after proper G-2 adjustment, you need to adjust the sub-bright adjustment in the service menu
control down until screen cut-off. (Service data Range is usually 21 to 25 in the Service menu, for Sony sets you first go to category "MCP2", & then adjustment item 01( "SBRT")= subright.
For electrical the focus, put on the screen a clear picture of your choice thru an input of the TV set from a DVD, then pause the playback of the DVD Look into each color and rock that color focus control back and forth (turn the control one way then the other way slowing down as the picture goes into the best focus. till the picture looks sharp do each color till they all look in focus. NOTE: it is best to look into each color tube to achieve the best electrical focus. For optical focus please follow the manual lens adjustment in the sets service manual

My new philips hard drive is not being recognised by my laptop anymore (its only 2 weeks old). the light comes on but it does not do the usual run through of contents anymore. i cant find it in my...

HI aoi,

There is no clear indication that a hard drive is about to fail, but there may be several warning signs that trouble is on the horizon. Excessive drive noise (such as loud clatters or whirring noises) can be one common warning sign. Other warning signs may include unusual read/write errors to the drive, often leading to the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), in which the computer freezes and the screen turns blue.

If the laptop is under warranty, contact the laptop’s manufacturer for service. Some manufacturers may honor the warranty for a marginal drive if the technician agrees that the system is unusable or a total failure is imminent, but other manufacturers may not agree to replace the drive until it actually fails. If the laptop is not under warranty, contact your nearest full-service PC repair center such as CompUSA or Best Buy. They may be able to arrange a depot repair, though the task may take several weeks and cost you a fee. Always get a price and time estimate in writing before giving permission for a repair job. Remember to back up your data before dropping the laptop off for service
