    no reconoce a la cámara

I have the same problem. I thought it was odd that the camera did not come with a firewire, and the website offers no drivers for this camera. I have two computers with firewire ports and muliple firewires.. none work with this camera, yet these same ports and wires work for my other devices (such as scanners and other video cameras that belong to my friends).

I have the same problem. When on the phone with Sony this morning they suggested sending the camera in for service which seems ridiculous. Anyone know of a solution?

Same problem. My old handycam had a driver and worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it was stolen. I bought a new one and have never been able to get it to connect. I'm sick of it.

It will not even recognize it... I have to use another video camera to import it.

I have tried both mac and pc.. both firewire and the usb for the mac. It doesn't recognize the camera. I was on the phone many times with Sony too. I'm so fed up with it. I have been working on this for the last 5-6 months to get everything up and working. I also had my brother look and see what he can do since he is a computer guy. He couldnt figure it out either.

Hi, I'm from the Philippines. I have the same handycam model. The first time I connected it to my PC (Windows XP) via firewire, nothing happened. It cannot detect my handycam. I returned the firewire card to the shop where I bought it. They tested it and the firewire card is ok but the firewire cable is defective so they replaced it. When I got home, I tested it again but still the handycam cannot be detected by my PC. I went online to find a solution and I came upon a solution that you need to attach/connect your charger to the handycam before you connect your handycam to your PC. It said that the handycam needs a steady supply of power to be able to connect to the PC. It sounded weird but I tried it and BINGO! The handycam got detected. I was able to capture my videos.

I also have a TV Tuner & Capture Card but when I capture videos thru the RF cables, the videos losses quality and videos are blurred. Thats the reason I bought a firewire card.

Can transfer the data from dcr HC28 (mini dv) to a computer. If yes how.

You can transfer mini dv movie files through DV Link (iLink) on camcorder, plug DV / IEEE1394 cable in camcorder and computer to import camera movie files in computer. It is necessary that your computer should have IEEE1394 port.
Thanks

Window 7 problem cannot detect my video cam

After connecting the Camcorder to the Computer with the Firewire/i.LINK, turn ON the Camcorder.
Keep the Camcorder in Playback mode.
Start the Moviemaker Software which is pre-installed in the Windows.
Check whether the Camcorder is recognized as the Video Device.

If the Camcorder is not recognized, then check whether it works with other Computer or not.
You may also try using a different i.LINK cable that is compatible with the Sony Camcorder.
Sony Camcorder have 4 pin DV Interface and the Computers may have either 4pin or 6-pin i.LINK/Firewire port. So make sure that you are using the correct cable.

well if i'm not mistaking it could be the LCD board connection at the screen . but the replacement + labor will go from 120 to 170,

have you tried to open the screen, really slowly and see if it shows any life !.
you can try to get an stimate at sony, and see how mush it will cost you repair the machine.

there is not easy way to fix it, the screws are small and they can be lost really easy.sorry

I have same problem. Am unable to connect my Sony DCR-HC28 to my computer. I have tried different cords to different computer, but get the same error that the device cannot be read

Try to connect to dvd RECORDER and make dvd, then finalize it. It works perfectly and there is no need for software. Then you can play it even on the computer or any dvd player. Good luck

Driver for DCR-HC28

It's not possible to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Vista running Computer using a USB connection.
The Camcorder uses the USB STREAMING function to transfer the videos to the Computer. The Vista doesn't support the USB STREAMING function.
However, you may transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using an i.LINK/FIREWIRE cable.

If your Computer has an i.LINK/FIREWIRE port on it you can connect the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK/FIREWIRE cable.

The i.LINK port is a D shaped port labelled as DV, i, IEEE1394, Firewire.

If the i.LINK port on the Computer has 4 pins on it, then you can use a 4-pin to 4-pin i.LINK cable.
If the i.LINK port on the Computer has 6 pins on it, then you can use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
The i.LINK port on the Sony Camcorder is a 4-pin i.LINK port.

I will forward a link to a page where you can get the steps to transfer the videos from the Camcorder to the Computer using the i.LINK connection.

Sony Handycam DCR-HC28

Unfortunately, it's not exactly a trivial process. The basic steps are as follows:

1) connect the camcorder to the computer
2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer
3) optionally, edit the video file
4) upload the file from the computer to youtube.com

1) the camcorder has 4-pin 1394 (also called firewire or i-link) jack, and the computer (if equipped) either has 6-pin 1394 jack or 4-pin 1394 jack (on some notebooks). if your computer doesn't have a 1394 jack, you need to buy a 1394 adapter (eg. pricegrabber.com)

2) transfer the video from the dv tape to a file on the computer hard drive using editing software or a software utility designed for doing just that. this software may come with the camcorder or the 1394 adapter.

3) optionally, use editing software to take an excerpt from the file, rearrange parts of the video, add titles, etc., and output a new file

4) upload the file to youtube.com. there are some guides on their website as well (eg. youtube.com)

I hope that helps.
