Hi there!

The limited or no connectivity problem is commonly caused by some of these factors:
1. router not giving out an IP address (no DHCP)
2. Incorrect network key or passphrase if you enabled wireless security

I want to help you out and I need to ask you these:

1. How many computers do you have?
2. Do you have a wired or wireless computer?
3. Is it laptop or desktop?

    Ok, it's a wired desktop.

    Was it working before?

What was the last thing that you did before it has that problem?

    Is it Windows XP?

Make sure that the ethernet light indicator on your modem/router is on..

    Try to change ethernet cables..

Force your LAN cards speed to 10Mbps full/half duplex (Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection Properties > Configure button > Advanced tab > Network Media > 10 BaseT or 10 Mpbs full/half duplex)

Computers have limited connection to linksys wrt54g although signal is full strength

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.
Also try resetting the wireless router by turning off the power to the wireless router for a few minutes and the boot up your computers.

Cannot open the d-link configuration page. Also PC does not get a IP address when connected to router

There are a couple of possibilities:
1. The cable (if you are indeed connected by a network cable) connected to the router is faulty.
Solution: Get a new cable to try it

2. The network card on your computer is faulty.
Solution: Check Control panels> system > hardware> Device manager. If it has a red exclamation point, it needs to be replaced. If not, try connecting using another network.

3. Connect to the router manually. Go to internet explorer and type 192.168.0.1. Check for access limitations on the router.
IF that doesn't work, hold the router reset button in back with a paperclip to reset it and try again.

I reset the router and the connection icon shows an exclamation point.

You have reset the router back to factory settings. You need to enter your username and password that were given you when you signed up with your ISP (Internet Service Provider)

Please leave feedback for me if this helped

Internet connection is fine when my PC's connected directly to the modem. The router connects fine. But won't let the wired PC online. Under the "status" bar the "router" tab won't show the correct...

here are times when there is a need to connect a wired computer to an access point in order to set it up. To connect a wired PC to a Linksys access point, follow the steps below. Step 1:
Connect the PC to the Ethernet port located at the back of the access point.

Step 2:
Assign a static IP address on the computer. For instructions, click here.
NOTE: To assign a static IP address using Mac, click here.
The Access Point can be configured in four different modes:
  • Access Point
  • Access Point Client
  • Wireless Repeater
  • Wireless Bridge
The Access Point mode allows wireless clients to connect to the access point and routes traffic between the wireless and wired interface. Use this mode to create a standard wireless Infrastructure network. For instructions, click here.
The Access Point Client mode allows this device to act as a wireless client. You can connect a wired PC to the access point to connect to a wireless router or another access point wirelessly. You can enter the MAC address of the Access Point or use the Site Survey button to select the Access Point you want to connect.
NOTE: The WAP54G will only communicate with another WAP54G when set to the Access Point Client. For instructions, click here.

Intermitnent wireless connection problems

There are two reasons for fluctuating wireless signals .
1. There is interference by way of microwave, hard cement walls, cordless phones, etc 2. The firmware of the router needs to be updated .
Either of these is the reason for your problem. Hope this helps .
Thanks

No default gateway !

This usually means that your network is connected but your computer can't obtain an IP address or default gateway from the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or router. Without an IP address, your computer cannot communicate on the network.

Home wireless network

Most wireless1.gif networks are setup as infrastructure networks, meaning all communication is to/from a wireless access1.gif point/router that serves the same function as a switch/hub in a wired network as a central point to transfer communications from machine to machine. One works over the air the other through a wire.

There is an alternate form of wireless networking1.gif refered to as ad hoc -- in this version of wireless networking every wireless adapter1.gif can "talk" to any other wireless adapter configured with the same SSID (name) and security encryption (none, WEP, WPA). This is how somewhat less impromptu wireless networks are created similar to impromptu infrared networks some of us have used. One limitation of the ad hoc networks I have seen configured to date is access to the internet. I have posted an article where a stationary PC (required to be running for any other wireless machine to access the internet) with a wireless card in ad hoc mode could act as the router for wireless network but it required a cabled connection the internet. I suppose it could be a second wireless connection on a separate channel with a second wireless adapter in an infrastructure network but why? These types of networks are only recommended in another article for a limited (small) number of machines.

Based on this are you asking to create an ad hoc network to connect 2 PC's1.gif wirelessly without a wireless router1.gif or access to the internet from the wireless network (without a dedicated machine)?
