Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

You've likely jammed the zoom motor in the lens. You're correct in thinking that the camera can't work without the lens out. With it being physical damage repairs wouldn't be covered under warranty so you either need to pay to have it repaired (if that's even possible, it varies camera to camera) or buy a new camera unfortunately.

Whenever I've seen that before it's caused by the camera being dropped on its lens while the lens was out. It can be repaired though it's fairly expensive too, in my honest opinion you'd be better off getting a new camera.

The lens cover does not open all the way. I have to use my fingernail to do it.

It is either bent or has grit and dirt in between the slides. Try using canned compressed air, such as you use to clean a computer keyboard with, to blow air between the slides. If that does not work, even though you will have to be very careful, while the lens cover is closed put a single drop of WD40 on the cover and spread it with a Qtip over the entire cover surface. Holding the camera, front facing down, try turning it on and off several times. If that frees the lens cover, turn the camera off and wipe the surface of the closed lens cover with a soft tissue to clean the WD40 from the surface. Make sure then that your lens is clean before using the camera. If the lens cover is bent, then none of this will work.

Lens error

if you have the expertise, open up the camera, and check that all the ribbons are secured by removing them and putting them back. Be very careful though, as i got a few shocks from the motherboard, even after removing the batteries!

i had this exact same problem, turns out the ribbon for the lens had come loose, after too many falls.

however if you dont have the expertise to open it, find someone who does :)

Camera shutter not opening

The best thing you could do is take it to a competent repair shop, tell them what happened, and have them fix it. If it is just sand jamming the lens cover, they shouldn't charge too much to fix it.

Alternatively, if you can move the lens covers at all, try gently working them back and forth in very small movements while holding the camera with the lens pointing down - basically just try to work the sand out and let gravity help you. Be careful though, you may get sand deeper into the camera's mechanisms this way!

Lens won't extend even though new batteries installed.

Two possibilities: one bad, one not so bad. If you've recently dropped the camera you've likely damaged the lens tube (housing), and the camera will require professional repair. Before you panic though, the problem that you described is frequently battery related. Make sure that your batteries are the correct type for the camera, and that they are fresh/fully charged. If the batteries are OK, the problem may be due to corrosion on the contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the inside contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sand paper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, wipe the ends of the batteries, and replace them in the camera. This cleaning process works about 90% of the time, and I hope that it cures your problem.

Hi

This camera can be very picky when it comes to the front lens cover... It's not a simple mechanism and has many small parts and gears involved. If the lens cover is dislodged it won't work smoothly, and if the case is dented it will not be able to move properly and this can cause lens problems.

If the lens was out when the camera was dropped, then it's possible the lens was damaged and not the lens cover. Sometimes you can tear down the lens, clean it and rebuild it and it will work smoothly again, sometimes this doesn't work and the lens needs to be replaced.

If you're comfortable opening the camera, first check out the lens with the front body section removed so nothing is blocking the lens cover. Does it work properly now? If not, then expect lens damage to be the issue.

Turn on the camera, cover lens is closed even though i already pull it down

if you open up your casing you will find that almost dead center on the front PCB, just to the right of the battery at the top of the empty battery area there is a box. possibly with some plastic fragment that is broken off. if you touch inside this box w/ something conductive it will think the lens is open. You can either fix this area or permanently solder it so it thinks it is always open. You can still turn it off using the button on the side of the camera
