Problem with disc reader

Okay, this 360 has caused me no end of problems.  First of all, it scratches discs.  Secondly, I've often had problems with getting the disc drive to open up.  A few weeks ago, I just ripped it open, stuck the disc in, and shoved it closed again, and it didn't seem to hurt the motor.
This time, I ripped it open again and shoved it back in.  The motor is working fine, but the disc reader won't recognize that there's a game in the console.  It'll open up automatically, close, then open again, then close again (etc...) and eventually it'll say "Reading," then the disc reader won't start spinning, it'll just give me the option to open the drive again.

How much will this motor cost me?  Would I be better off dropping this off at an electronics repair store?

I have a game and i won't work anymore

It is probably scratched, or have became dirty, unless there might be a problem with the xbox laser-reader.

Try with other games, and if there is the same problems, it might be the laser-reader.

If it might be the laser-reader, you should try ejecting the disc tray, remove the disc if there is one, and try to blow "downward", because there might be dust on the reader, which can give the xbox problems with reading discs.

(Saints Row 2) when im driving i get stuck and i m invisible what do i need to do?

You should checkl your game disc for scratched or dirt.

If there is scratches on your disc, that might be the problem. If you go to your nearest GameStop, there is normally a "disc-fixer" which they can use on your disc, for not that much money. And that will fix your disc, and make it less glitchy/reaable.

If that's not the problem, you should try ejecting the disc tray, and blow "downward" into the xbox,, and onto the opotic reader, because if there is dust on the reader, that will make it much more difficult for the xbox to read the discs.

Why wont my xbox 360 elite read discs? i put disc in and it comes up reading and then open tray

My only questions are does the console say the discs are damaged in any way? and is the console standing up right?
If the discs are scratched in any way then that might cause the 360 to not read the disc and sometimes having a console play the disc upright (example of upright 360) for a long time can cause dis function when trying to play discs, so try playing the discs with the console on its side (side example) These are my solutions to the problem but you can try these: Solution 1 Solution 2

Have had three game discs destroyed by a deep scratching all the way around the disc...scratch runs the full 360 degree circumference. happens randomly. what is causing this and how can i fix it?

Could be caused by dirt or dust in the actual disc reader assembly for the 360. you can purchase a DVD cleaner disc for cheap from numerous retailers like best buy and walmart. or online.
Here is one I found for cheap on amazon.com with free shipping: http://www.amazon.com/Memorex-CD-DVD-Player-Laser-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B00008EM7U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296002431&sr=8-1
If this doesnt work then there may be more serious hardware issues with the dvd drive, you can get it replaced at an authorized repair shop or you can send it in to microsoft.
Hope this helps.

Disk unreadable but clean disk not scratached

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOmNtrStDgM
Turned on your Xbox 360 console one day and and when you try to play your game you got the message "This disc is unreadable" OR "Unplayable disc".....??
First determine whether it's a fault with the disc or not, by having a look on the disc itself & make sure it's not scratched and there are no flaws even on it, and try other game discs on your Xbox 360 console .
If your disc is scratched or have flaws try putting other discs in your Xbox 360 console just to make sure it's the disc not the actual console causing the error, If other disc are working fine, refer to the scratched discs page on our website to know what are the steps you have to follow to get it sorted out.
If the disc is not scratched and doesn't have any flaws on it, cleaning the disc and trying it once more may solve the issue, if that doesn't work try to check it by putting other discs in your Xbox 360 console, if they all work that would be definitely a fault with the disc itself and in a case like this you have the right to exchange it from the retailer you bought it from as it's not scratched.
In all cases if other game discs are giving you the same error message "This disc is unreadable" OR "Unplayable disc" you need then to contact Xbox 360 customer support to send your console to get repaired or exchanged.

Halo ring on disk.

Check to see if there are any scratches or laser burn marks on the discs. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating “Disc Read Error” or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs. A common problem that Xbox owners are reporting is if the console is moved during play, a whirring noise is heard and then when the disc is removed, very visible laser burn rings are found on the disc.

Laser burn, looks like complete or partial circular scratches around your disc, also known as “the ring of death”. This occurs to discs when the games console has been moved whilst playing, from an upright to a horizontal position or vice versa or simply knocked against or the wires may have been just tripped upon. Discs are then impaired by a ring of laser burn, which is a circular scratch into the disc. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some discs but professional disc repair services is usually required to repair any scratches or laser burn on discs.

For further help on Xbox & Xbox 360 disc repairs, visit:

www.discREPAIR.ie

Check the “More Info” & “FAQ” Sections for further details on disc repairs and related matters or to get scratched discs repaired back to "As Good As New Condition".

If this laser burn scenario is consistently happening to your game discs especially if the console has not been moved or bumped against while the discs is in play, the games console itself may require repair.
You should contact Microsoft for assessment and guidelines.

Hope this Helps!!

Disc ring

While disc scratching is known to occur if you move your XBox360 console from vertical to horizontal position while the disc is spinning or by bumping the console while the disc is spinning, there have also been reports that discs have become scratched when the console has not been moved at all. The official line from Microsoft is: "If you are experiencing scratched discs without moving your console you should contact 1-800-4MYXBOX for warranty support from Microsoft." Unfortunately, Microsoft will not replace your scratched discs for free. Instead, they offer a scratched disc replacement program with a charge of $20 per disc. To take advantage of this program go to the XBox website and search for "XBox Disc Replacement Program".
