Question about Price Pfister Plumbing

2 Answers

My new Pfister faucet makes a clunking noise; the plumber who installed it said that once the washers get seated down, it will go away. If anything the noise is getting worse. It happens when I first turn it on, and then periodically while the water is running. The water actually stops and restarts after some of the clunks. Sort of a ka-thunk noise. Thanks for your help.

The clunking noise is called water hammer. To get this fixed you need to have the pipes strapped down to all joist and studs till it hits the valve. It is not a washer of any sort.

I am a general contractor and I can tell you the the pipe is flexing on a joist, against a 2x4 or through a hole in a 2x4 and that is where you get the clunking noise.

Have the plumber strap the pipe to all 2x4s that it crosses or goes through. If he does not you can get a water leak where it is rubbing or hitting the 2x4.

Here are some links about water hammer.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-water-hammer.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_hammer

Also you can take him to the Better Business Bureau if he refuses to get it fixed.

Here is the BBB link if you need it.

http://www.bbb.org/

I would have him come out and fix it or call someone else out to let you know what the noise is. If you call someone else out there should be no charge. I give free estimates.

Good Luck and if you have any questions I am willing to help you more.

Hi,
He was having some wishful thinking thoughts about that noise going away... it will not....the noise will only get worse....
I for myself do not like those faucets and the way that they close...
I would take out that faucet return it and buy another one that is washer less and will shut off slower...

How to replacing valve seat

For a standard seat replacement you will need to shut off water and remove stem. Below the stem is the seat. It will either have a square center hole or hexagonal hole. If you don't have a seat wrench, you can get one at the hardware store when you pick up your replacement seats and washers. The new seats might not have the same inside type hole, so buying a tool that has both styles would be helpfull. Insert the correct seat tool into the seat and turn counter clockwise to remove seat. Reverse this to install new seat. Be sure to put a small amount of of pipe joint compound on the seat threads before installing. Replace the stem washers and reinstall on faucet. Make sure you take off the aerator or shower head and flush debris from system when you turn on the water. If your valve is a wall mount faucet with horizontal stems, you will need to take the faucet off at the union nuts and replace the seats from the back side of valve body. Remember, Lefty Loosy and Righty Tighty.
Hope this helps and good luck.

My Price Pfister Pasadena bathroom sink faucet water comes out to the side, not straight down

Check the nozzle is not adjustable in which case move it to the direction you want as manufacturers are not going to make a tap that points any where but down unless it is adjustable.

When installing do you silicone each piece for example the faucet , the soap dispenser ,the sprayer , and the tap

Hi seawitch678,

If you have a granite or stone countertop/sink, use silicone as plumber's putty will stain the stone. Plumber's putty is petroleum based so it will not adhere to stone. Normally you should use what the manufacturer recommends and where they recommend. When installing a faucet, put either around the base of any piece that goes through the countertop.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

We purchased Price Pfister Marielle R89-8MBY and installed it - it is a beautiful fixture and is high quality. However, the faucet spray is not uniform, it actually splatters water in different directions....

Tammy, on the Price Pfister web site, there is a CONTACT US link to report problems. Tell them the model number of your faucet and describe the problem. Price Phister is very, very good about making you happy, and you should have a new aerater assembly in the mail in about 5 days.

I did not get the instructions for the pop up installation. do i put plumbers putty around the seal between the sink and the pop up?

yes.
however plumbers putty is not recomended on cultured marble tops. (one piece counter top with built in sink) it will stain and discolor the marble
I recomend using silicone for these tops, just make sure to let dry for a couple of hours before using.
the silicone will only go around the drain in the top of the sink, don't use the silicone anywhere else. I like to use a little plumbers paste around the rubber washer on the underside of the sink, and just a little bit on any threads.
do not over tighten, use your chanel lock pliers until it is snug. if it is a plastic pop-up, they can break easily, so go easy

I re-installed all new parts in my 3 handle shower including new seats inside the pipe and I still get a leak out of the spout when handles are turned to off position. Is there a special way to do this?

Depending on age of faucet it may be wore in valve itself they make seat tool to use in valve to let washer seat like it should.

Brass in vavle will wear after years and won't let new washers seat to stop leak it's something you can check out.

Cold side of faucet, when turned on, occasionally stops flowing.

Sounds like the valve is comming apart internally. This allows the water to get into places it shouldn't and the water pressure forces the valve closed even though the handle is in the open position. Take it apart and check for loose screws and broken pieces. Lowes or Home Depot should have parts. Don't forget to shut off the valve below the faucet (if the plumber installed one) if not one will have ot shut off incomeing water supply.

Kitchen Faucet Leak

The stem and washers inside the faucet need to be replaced.

If you Do it yourself the parts typically will cost you less than 20 bucks.

Most plumbers will charge 75 to 100 for this relatively simple Job.

You can order parts directly from the manufacturer, or from a local plumbing supply house.
The faucet may still be under warranty and the parts would be free. Here is ther number for Price pfister.

Handle on faucet shuts off on its own

I had the same problem. The Price Pfister web site recommends removing the handle (unscrew the dome cap, then remove the phillips screw to get the handle off) then tightening the retaining ring (I used channel lock pliers on largest setting. It worked. However the retaining ring is plastic on some models, and they recommend replacing it with a brass one. I haven't taken that step yet, we'll see how it goes (mine is plastic).
