Is either your ram is bad or the hdd, then check the process fan, it might need service. mother board is the last resort.

My son's HP530 laptop freezes at start-up at the HP "Invent" / Intel screen. I've tried to boot from the DVD/CD drive with a Vista install disc - but no luck. Any advice?

At this point the issue could be several thing. The problem could be with the motherboard or the memory. Even a problem with the hard drive should cause the problem.

The first question I have for you is that you stated that you tried to boot from the VISTA CD. So did you actually get to the option to boot from or did you just put the disk in the drive to see if it would boot. Also did it go back to the HP screen.

The next thing to check to see if there is any of the system lights on and/or flashing. With notebook computers these are used as diagonisic light to help show where problems are with the notebook.

How to fix this error "BOOTMGR IS MISSING". Every-time I reboot my laptop, it always say to press CTR ALT DLT to restart. I did that, and seems to me that this error is keep coming...

Try this:
1. First you need Vista Recovery Disk .iso file. Can be downloaded here: [redacted]
2. Then you probably need image burning program. I prefer CD Burner XP >http://cdburnerxp.se/download.php
3. When you have installed CD Burner XP, start program, choose "Burn ISO image" and browse to Vista Recovery Disk.iso file.
4. When program has finished to burn ISO image, put CD into PC with "boot mgr is missing" problem.
5. Re-start PC, press F2 2-3 times, go into BIOS Setup Utility, choose Boot, move CD/DVD unit up to the first line with F6. Press F10 , choose YES.
6. Click this link to find out what to press when PC boots from CD:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fixing-bootmgr-is-missing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/

If this helps you, please rate. Thank you

Bootmgr is missing.

Sorry to say this but you will need to do a complete restore from DVD of your operating system. Vista is not as forgiving as XP where you can rebuild the boot sector - If you have your vista recovery disc's do a complete recovery >> sorry - from now on always do backups of data you need to keep weekly.

No hardware found when downgrading from vista to xp

first of all you might want to check the laptop manufacturers website to ensure that it can be down graded. after this and if it can be downgraded you might want to download the thrid party sata/scsi drivers from you hard drive manufacturers website so they can be used during set up. if all this fails perhaps using thrid party slip stream software like NLite to copy all the set up files ready for install. hope this helps.
let me know if it doesnt.

Vista & xp service pack2 sinultaneously.

Not both. If you have the Vista recovery, go ahead and load it first, then load the XP by creating a new partition on your harddrive. Now you have a dual boot machine, and will need the XP device drivers. Not sure if you have them or not, so here is a place to get them.
