I need help in good tension for rolled hem in empisal 606D overlocker

Your owner's manual should have instructions for rolled hem settings. My Bernina manual has a the following settings:
Medium weight fabric
80/12 Universal needle
3 cones serger thread
Upper looper 3-5
Lower looper 7-9
Left needle (no thread)
Right needle 3-5
Stitch length 1-1.5
Cutting width 2-3
Differential feed N

Can use woolly thread in the upper looper, but the tension may need to be loosened since the woolly nylon thread will stretch.

How do I thread the Bernina Overlocker

Depends on your serger model. Best idea is consult the owner's manual. Some manuals are available for download on Bernina's web site (look under Support). Be sure to thread in the order specified in the manual. Usually the upper looper is first, then the lower looper second, then the needles. (Hint: The lower looper thread ALWAYS lays over the top of the upper looper thread in the final looper threading step.)

You can also download a serger workbook too.

Right looper tread won't stay threaded properly

Consult your owner's manual and verify that you are threading the lower looper correctly--not skipping any steps, making sure the lower looper thread crosses OVER the upper looper thread in its last step before going under the presser foot.

How do I oil my Janome 664d overlocker

Does your overlocker have a threading diagram on the inside of the front cover? Often this will also show a couple of red dots where you need to oil.

Obviously always best to consult the manual if you have it; I haven't been able to find an image of the threading or oiling diagram for your machine.

If it doesnt have this diagram and you don't have a manual then I would hazard a guess and say that you need to oil the loopers where they move through another metal part. So open up the front and have a look at the lower looper mechanisim, manually turn the flywheel to move the looper and you should be able to see what I mean. The lower looper will move back and forwards through a metal socket piece and the looper bar may look lubricated on each side. So give the metal holding bit a drop and the oil should work into it. There may be a similar looking bit for the top looper, have a look and give it a drop of oil.

Some overlockers will have an oiling point at the back of the sewing table, it may be a little hole marked with red paint.

I bought a Black & Decker Alligator 4.5 Amps Looper and lost the owners manual. How can I get or purchase one?

Please give a call where you purchased your unit. They could send you a photocopy of owner's manual or if not available they could request to the manufacturer and send it to you by postal or email.
Thanks for asking.

I can't find my Bernina Serger 800 dl manual - how do I thread for a 2 thread rolled hem, and do I need a upper looper cover and that the heck is that anyway?? Thanks

From what I have read this manual is less than desirable. Neither is the one for the brand that I have.

You may have better guidance if you purchase and use Nancy Zieman's "Serge with Confidence". I have found it very helpful.

For the two thread rolled hem, the looper cover is used to "trick" the looper into "thinking" it is threaded.

On my serger (not a Bernina), this is referred to as a "subsidiary looper". It is a spring type mechanism that fits in a small hole at the top of the upper looper.

You use a rolled edge presser foot; right or left needle; stitch length @ normal or wider; stitch length @ 1mm for the left needle/0.5 for the right needle; differential feed @ normal; needle tension - tighten; lower looper tension - normal or looser; two thread looper cover - engaged.

Test and adjust the tension as needed before making the rolled hem on your garment.

I hope this helps.

I need a replacement manual for Babylock Xscape BL66

You will need to contact a BL dealer to order a manual, if any are available. This model has been replaced.

There is a threading guide in on the inside of the door on the front of the serger.

Raise the presser foot and set the tension controls to zero.

Turn the handwheel until the upper looper (curved looper) is at it's highest point - there may be a mark on the side of the serger and handwheel for aligning to this point.

Thread the upper looper first, then the lower looper, then the needles.

Pull the threads under the presser foot and to the left side of the serger.

Set the tensions back to 4 - 6 setting, lower the presser foot and stitch a chain before serging fabric.

You may be able to find a free manual download at the Brother website for a similar product.
