Hello,

The device manager program is a Philips tool, that has the icon of a toolbox.

To check if you have the device manager installed on your computer:
- Launch the Philips Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Digital Audio Player->SA31xx->Philips 31xx Device Manager->Philips Device Manager
- The version number of the Device Manager will show on the computer screen, as soon as it is launched if you already have the latest version, there is no need to upgrade.

When not having the device manager software tool on your computer, see under Software & drivers on the support page for the SA3125/37, Device/Firmware Manager:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=SA3125/37&slg=en&scy=US

SOURCE: my player isn't recognized by the Device Manager or Windows Media Player

I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

Flash drive repair

I am pretty sure the flash drive is bad.
There are some software than can read the contents of the drive if not then it is really dead. Commercial outlets promise to repair damages like the one you might have.
P.S Anything "usb" that you connect to a pc will show up in device manager as the piece it really is or as a "usb" because it can't communicate with the device.

My go gear will not turn on or show that it is dead

Hi sexystilosma,

Sounds like your mp3 player may benefit from a Repair, which will update the firmware and restore the player to factory settings. More information on this product can be found at:

http://ow.ly/5PHEZ

You can find FAQ's, as well as instructions on how to perform a Repair (see below).

If you have any additional questions, you can reach Philips Consumer Care @ 1-888-744-5477.

Hope this helps! If so, let me know by rating this solution.

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:

Use a pen tip or other sharp object to insert the RESET hole gently on the side of the player and connect it again to your PC. If it is still not recognized, your player may be at fault. Try the Philips Device Manager software.

NOTE: Contents will be removed by using the repair function.

  1. Install the Philips Device Manager and run it with your player connected to your PC. You can download it under the Software & drivers section.
  2. Click the Repair tab in the Device Manager, press and hold the corresponding recovery key on the player when connecting it to your PC.
  3. Follow the PC screen to recover your player.

    Hi michelle poo,

For more information on the Philips GoGear SA6045, like FAQ's, software, manuals and more, visit http://ow.ly/5R5Ud.

I would consider performing a Repair/Recovery, which oftentimes resolves these types of issues and also updates the firmware in the process.

Try doing a soft reset first.

    1. Insert a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole located at the back of the player.
    2. Hold until the player shuts down.
    3. Power on the player again by using the Power on/off key.
Note: Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted by a soft reset.

If soft reset does not work, then you may have to use the Device Manager to REPAIR/RECOVER your player:

    1. If you have not already installed the Device Manager, follow the on screen instructions to install the Device Manager from the installation CD or download the latest version of the Device Manager application from http://www.philips.com/support.
    2. Make sure all other applications Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that access the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device. Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager on your PC. Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box.
    3. Power off the player. Press and hold the "+" key and then connect it to the PC until you are prompted to release the key.
    4. Select the device name SA60xx and then click OK and REPAIR. IMPORTANT: All music & content of your device will be erased once the Player is repaired.070327115306_18301.gif
    5. Once the repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click OK and unplug the Player from the computer.
      070327115511_18302.gif
    6. The Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Close all opened application and then unplug your device.
Once the Player is disconnected from the computer, the display will show "Firmware Upgrading" for a couple of seconds and then start up as usual.

Tip: Update your player's firmware to the latest version to reduce the chance of future hang-ups. See "How do I update my player with the latest firmware?" for instructions.

If you have any additional questions or issues, Consumer Care can be reached at 1-888-744-5477.

Hope this helps! If so, please let me know by rating this solution so that I can help others more effectively!

Sa6087/37 continually updating?????

Not sure why this happens, but you could try repairing the player with the Philips Device Manager from the product CD.

Run Philips Device Manager, then press and hold [VOL+] whilst plugging into the PC.

Device Manager should show the device connected in repair mode. Follow the on-screen prompts.

This will format the player and re-load the firmware.

When you have disconnected the player, swithc it back on. It will show "initializing" briefly, then shut down.

Re-start the player. It should show "updating" and then go to the main menu screen.

Sounds like the firmware is corrupt.

Try this:

Make sure you have installed Philips Device Manager from the product CD.

With the player powered off:

Press and hold VOL+ whilst connecting to the PC.

PC will show drive as Recovery Device (or similar) and device manager will start and show "Your device has an error...."

Click repair and follow the on-screen prompts.

When prompted, disconnect the player and power on.

Player will show "Loading" and then shut down.

Power on again.

Player will show "Updating" and then shut down again.

Player can now be powered up as normal.
