Question about Car Audio & Video

2 Answers

Hi, I installed a JVC KD-HDR20 HD Radio/CD Receiver using a GM Wire Harness on my 1990 Pontiac Bonneville LE and i'm unable to get the unit powered on. I followed the instructions and spliced my radio wires with the GM harness, color to color. I thought the unit was defective and replaced it, but i'm still unable to power up the unit. I noticed when I was removing the JVC replaced unit, it was warm. I replaced my factory delco radio because the radio & clock (no display) stopped working but the tape deck continued to work. This happened right after I had my headliner fixed and i'm not sure if this is related in anyway. I figured the radio has broken and replaced it with the JVC radio. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Blue,

I haven't tested the wiring for proper voltage yet.

Since the previous radio's tape deck worked, could we rule out a fuse issue?
Also, are there any wires on the hood of my car that the fabricators may have messed with that could have caused this problem?

    Thanks

Thanks. I re-checked the fuse box and noticed a second radio fuse that i missed, turns out it was blown out. Once replaced the head unit turns on, thanks.

thanks, it was a blow fuse.

You need to check the wiring at the radio, u should have 2 12 volt sources with the key turned to on or accessory and one 12 volt source with the key turned off, if not u need to check for blown fuses. Below is the GM wire colors for 12 volts and ground at the radio connector, use a test light to verify or a DC voltmeter

Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Orange
Radio Switched 12V+ Wire: Yellow
Radio Ground Wire: Black

How to use jvc kd-hdr20 car stereo. I need to know how to fix balance, bass, bluetooth, ect.

To pair a bluetooth device with the radio, turn on the Bluetooth function of the device. Then press the SRC (source) button on the receiver. Select BT Audio or BT Phone, depending on the device you want to pair with the radio. Use the up/down arrows to select New Device and press the down arrow. Select Open and then press the down arrow. Then enter the PIN by using the left/right arrows to select a digit and turning the volume knob until the correct digit is entered. (For some devices, you need to enter a specific PIN. Consult that device's manual.) Press the down arrow to set the PIN. Enter the PIN in the device you are pairing to the receiver (if it doesn't have a required PIN). Wait for the message "Connected" to appear.

To use the device in the future, press SRC and choose the appropriate Bluetooth type. Then use the right/left arrows to select the registered device. Press the down arrow and then use the right/left arrows to select Connect and press the down arrow. (See the manual, link below, for setting the autoconnect or autoanswer.)

To adjust the sound system balance, press and hold Menu to open the menu and then turn the volume knob to Audio. Press the center of the Volume knob. Then navigate to balance and adjust the unit as needed.

The manual for the KD-HDR20 is available from JVC on the product support page: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?archive=true&pathId=54&modelId=MODL028465 . The direct link to the instruction manual is http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/14/LVT1960-001A.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Installing KD-HDR20 and I get a red power light but nothing works

I have had the same issue and I tried until I found the problem.
1) I had no power to my remote wire.
(The wire that only allows the radio to work when the care ignition is on.)
2) The radio has a fuse or maybe two.
But the auto mobile may have blown its fuse.
In my case it was the remote fuse.
3) I have had a bad ground and only need to find a good place.
4) I have even found insufficient power to my radio because too many devices were also using that power.
5) Heck I have even forgot to start the care or at least turn the ignition.
6) My battery was so dead it couldnt even power my radio.

DOESN'T WORK AFTER INSTALLING A NEW CAR BATTERY

did you check the fuse on the back of the radio. it should be a small maxi fuse that might be rated any where from 5 to 20 amps. most of the time it might be helpful to unplug the radio harness and re plug it after 1 minute.
