Hi - tried putting in lens cleaner previously with same result as other CDs - "disc" came up when I pressed the "play" button. Does that give a further clue to problem?

Am in Spain, so it´s going to be a problem calling the technical support, I fear.

Hi - I phoned Grundig - they say they do not repair this model. It seems a shame-although it is not new, we have been away from the house for most of the last 8 years, except for very brief periods, and it has been hardly used. He told me I need to buy a new one!

  • lindajwareha Aug 23, 2010

The intention was helpful and I was advised to phone the maker. Unfortunately the model no longer has any download options for repair.

Problem is either firmware/software or lens, both problems result in the unit not reading any disk.

NO firmware or software for this model is listed on Grundig web site. Open Grundig.com, find contact, call the technical support and ask if firmware or software update is available. If it is, download the update, burn a CD using the computer and start the player with the upgrade CD inside.

If that does not fix the problem or if update is not available, proceed in cleaning the lens. This can be done using a cleaner CD or accessing lens directly and cleaning it. See:Fixing problems with the optical laser lens.

If the unit displays erratical behaviour, that is often one more indication that the firmware is responsible.

If you are in Spain call Grundig Espana:

Hi - have called Grundig - they say they do not repair this model. I have to buy a new one. Seems a shame - although it´s not new, it has been used very, very little as we have both been absent from this flat for most of the last 8 years!

    Hi.

If Grundig Spain does not repair this model, that usually means that the unit has been purchased in a different country. You can still try dropping an email to Grundig in the country of purchase (eg. if it is UK search for Grundig UK contact in google).

The alternative is buying a new combo.

  • lindajwareha Aug 23, 2010

Hi - no, it was definitely purchased here in Spain - my husband bought it and he´s Spanish!
Seems to me they are probably more interested in selling new equipment than bothering to repair old. And it´s such a good sound system, too. Wonder if a local company might do it. I´´ll investigate. I just thought it might be something easily solved. Thanks for your help. Kind regards. Linda

    Hi Linda.

You can call Sony Spain again, and ask the address of an authorized repair, or ask to any local repairer. If there is no access to firmware the repair will be done changing either DVD drive or main board, and in both cases it may result in a too-expensive price compared to the value of the unit (about 150/200 eurosor a new unit).

Here an LG combo VHS/DVD .

If the VHS section of your grundig is working I suggest using it as VHS (they are quite expensive now), and eventually buying a DVD recorder or a blue ray to be connected externally to your Grundig.

  • lindajwareha Aug 23, 2010

Hi - it´´s the CD (MUSIC) Player that isn´t working, not the DVD! It´s a 101 CD player, not a VHS-DVD. We have a separate DVD player (a Thomson)!!! Have we been on the wrong track?

Hi, no , things do not change, and even the kind of fault.

Sorry about the confusion, after answering to your question I did a number of CD, DVDs, combo and other devices, I confused your case with a lady with a faulty combo that I answered earlier this morning.

The only difference in my response concerns the replacement. A quality CD unit today can be purchased for less than 100 Euros, that will be less than the repair price. The best choice is getting a replacement CD

  • lindajwareha Aug 23, 2010

Ok thanks - no problem. Will buy another one then. Kind regards. Linda

Hello i have a Philips cdr 870. With every blank CD inserted, the display shows NO AUDIO. Pre recorded CDs play OK. Unable to record. I have recently aquired this machine and this is the first time I have...

You are probably inserting blank computer discs, eg 650 or 700mb rather than blank music CD-R or CD RW`s which this machine is designed to work with. The correct discs are labelled "music audio" or 80 minutes. You can only use these types of discs. Why? When these recorders first came out, it was a way of battling piracey in copying discs. I believe there is a "hack" to enable this player to use blank computer discs.

I can not get the Magazine to release. I see where it say's Manual Magazine realease, but can't tell what to do. Please help Darrell Mack

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check that the speaker cables are not damaged and the connections are secure. Reduce the output level from any external components connected to the music center. Make sure the audio input cable is firmly seated in the music center SPEAKER ZONE 1 jack and the multi-pin connector on the other end is firmly seated in the Accustoms module AUDIO INPUT jack. Check the cables connecting the Jewel Cube TM speakers to the Accustoms module. To restore communication between the music center and the speakers turn the music center off for ten seconds, then on again. Check the connections for any external components. Make sure to select the correct source for the desired input. Be sure the CD is placed correctly, label-side up, in the magazine, and the magazine is inserted properly in the music center. Increase the volume. Check to see if MUTE is lit on the display. If it is, press the MUTE button on the remote control to un-mute the sound. Disconnect any headphones. Connect the FM and AM antennae. Check to see if the play symbol in the display is lit. After pressing the CD key, wait a few seconds before pressing PLAY. Make sure the magazine is properly inserted. Check to see if there is a disc in the magazine, label-side up. Display shows a flashing box for a disc that is label-side down or cannot be read. There may be dirt or dust on the CD. If so, clean the CD. Eject the magazine and try loading the CD again. A display message “E01” indicates a mechanical error. Unplug the music center. Reconnect power and try again. If “E01” reappears, call customer service.

If the CD stuck again as you stated in your earlier comments, then you need to use a small and long screwdriver to reach the notch. Now turn the media center upside down so that the "Manual Magazine Release" is in your upper right hand. Locate the two small rectangular "Open Slots" on the side. You need to use the top slot. Use the screwdriver and push the little "U" or "Y" Shaped metal upward which is just below the manual release. The magazine will come out.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

DVDs & CDs will not play

If you are playing STANDARD CD or regular DVD that you have purchase and you are having this problem, your dvd player is malfunction;however,if you are playing DVD burner disc or a different dvd region disc(we are region 1 in U.S.) that is no going to work.Same thing for your CD burner disc,it might not work.
If you are using a rental dvd disc, check and see if there is scratches? If so,try to get one without that many scratches!
