D40 nikon camera lense is stuck

What do you mean by "opened it up"? I hope you did not disassemble your lens. If you did; STOP NOW! Without training, you will never be able to reassemble your lens yourself. Contact your closest Nikon USA repair depot or a local qualified camera repair man.
If, on the other hand, you mean that you simply removed the lens from your camera and the part in question is on the rear of the lens, please post a photo of the lens with an arrow or some type of identification of the part you are talking about.
One other thing; have you asked your photography instructor to look at your lens?

Lens error restart camera- the lens is out and wont go back in, everytime i try restarting my camera it says lens error restart camera

Hi, their isnt much you can do yourself and the chance of getting it repaired is slim as knowbody will touch them as the cost of repair costs more than it would to buy another camera.

how ever you can try the following to try and fix it.
when you switch it on pull or push the lense and then switch it off and push the lense in a bit and hopefully this will free it up and get it working,
if pushing and pulling dont work try twisting it clockwise or anti clockwise when you switch it on and then off.

all you can do is try and fix it yourself as you wont find anyone who can fix it as it costs to much to have these fixed.

when you switch it on pull the lense out slightly whilst switching it on if that dont free it up push the lense in when you switch it on doing this should get it working again.

if by some chance it dont then this would mean the lense motor has failed and if this is the case you may as well sell the camera as spares because you wont find anyone who can fix it for you, even if you did find someone the cost to have the work done would cost more than the camera is worth.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My samsung digital L730 wont turn on

Just fixed mine, if the lens is out that's the problem we had, it was jammed and not allowing it to switch on, we gently pushed it back in, then switched on, the lens came out a bit then jammed, pushed it in again & kept doing it until it cleared the blockage.
Works fine now!
Hope it works for yo

Broken Camera

It''s the battery..you need to buy rechargable batteries or lithium batteries. These batteries are specialied made for digital cameras. The lense is shutting off and or stuck because there isnt enough power/energy from the batteries. This is also a COMMON problem in these specific models! You can buy recharge batteies wityh the chrager and like 4 aa batteries for around $20.00 at wal-mart..Energizer is a nice one that plugs right into your wall outlet to recharge. My camera Samsung diximax D53 Works great now taht O realized it was teh batteries..No vody told em, and it doesnt specify which batterios to use in teh camera manual..at least I dont think..I even thought the camera came with regular alkaline batteries ( the ones taht wont work fior this camera)?

Casio Digital Camera ex-s770 will not open

Hi, this is a problem alot of people get having with this type of camera.
It could be one of a couple of things first check the battery is fully charges as a faulty battery would cause this problem, do you have a switch on the camera that lets you see the pictures stored on it without opening the lense, not all makes and models do this some have switch you can slide and some is just push button the push button you cant do this.
So if yours is the push button one then the only thing to try if the battery isnt the problem is looking and removing anything thats caught in the side of lense.
Ok try removing battery and any mem cards if you have any in it then bang the camera firmly into the palm of your hand sort of shocking the camera to dislodge any thing thats stuck in the side of lense do this few times then replace battery and switch on usually this solves the problem.
If not then when you switch camera on grab the lense and help it come out taking it past where it gets stuck be gentle try this few times and see if camera comes on.
Once the lense is passed certain point the camera should come on.
So give that a try it does sound like something is jamming the lense so try pulling it out gently only do it when its supposed to be coming out when it trys to go back in let go again try this few times.
Failing this then the problem could be that either the camera has been put down with the lense open and forced the lense motor damaging it or the other thing that people tend to do is switch camera on acidently whilst its in pocket or case so that it switches on but the lense is blocked from coming out this causing damage to lense motor.
If the problem is in fact the lense motor then their is no way of getting this repaired they just dont repair these and you cant get the parts like lense motor no camera shop will even look at them as you cant get parts and also price of repair would cost more than replacing the camera.
Also check to see if your lense turns round as its coming in or out if it does this then try turning the lense as its coming out.
Let me know how you get on ok and ill try assist you further

Defective mechanism, You need professional service to fix it, or better give it back asap,  digital camera lasts only for three years working at its best form, I suggest you buy a brand new one and sell it after two years of use. [:0)
