Question about Focusrite Saffire LE FireWire Audio Interface Sound Card

1 Answer

Hi, My Saffire LE is making a crackling sound. I have check this on both the monitoring channel and the second out put on my HS80's and also on the headphones out put on my AGK's, the crackle is intermitant and most evident when loud transients or bass is played, almost like it is due to speaker damage, but this is not the case as I have tested it on my headphones and my speakers are not damaged in any way. I have checked my software settings on the Saffire LE and checked my firewire pci card and all see to be working/set-up correctly. Inscidently, this crackling began at the same time that my network card started playing up (not connecting to the internet even though it can detect the network) could this be connected? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Ben Earle

Power sound amplifier output transistor push n pulls are dead and the q point is off the scale.
Either it is a modular amp or discreet top hat xistors

Apologies but I am not sure I understand your answer? How do I fix this issue and could it be linked to the issue with my network card?

    Thanks...

Can you connect the input to this amplifiier to a cd player system like a Walkman player?
If the crackle is duplicated then you amplifier electronics is malfuntioning. Replace it of bring it to an electronics repair shop.
Why are you asking if it is related to the network card and not to the audio card?

Ben sorry the symtomes sounded like a bad amplifier.
I see others have the same problem and it was discribed as a bad connection .
The same thing happens to a gaitar connected pluged in halfway into its amplifier before the portion of the ground is established. Bad ground return may be the problem or the plugs are inaquite

My Saffire Le doesn't show up in AUDIO DEVICES but all is instaled corect and in my device manager I can that fire wire and Saffire are ok please try to help... it began after I reinstaled windows (now...

Go to Volume Controls - Options menu - Properties... is it in the Mixer drop down box there? You might find the problem is that any onboard soundcards you have on the motherboard are now set to default since you reinstalled. In which case go to device manager and disable it. If problem persists try a reinstall of saffire whilst the onboard card is disabled. Some motherboards allow you to disable the onboard sound from the bios menu too, that could be something to try

Why does my volume control make clicking sounds when i adjust the volume knob?I use a imac

Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to your computer.
On your speakers, find the cable that plugs into your computer. Make sure that the speaker cable is plugged into the speakers and the correct jack on the computer. For example, if the cable is a 1/8 inch cable, there should be a round jack for it on the back of the computer. If it is a USB cable, it will plug into any USB port on your computer.
• If the music in your library skips or the audio breaks up when you play it in Windows Media Player, there might be a problem with the audio driver installed on your computer. Typically, this type of problem only occurs toward the end of songs (in the last 20 seconds or so).
In some cases, you can work around the problem by disabling optional speaker effects that are collectively known as enhancements. If disabling speaker effects solves the problem, you might need to update your audio driver.

Firewire audio problem

Hey Waterleo
I am running a very similar system. Black macbook and saffire not LE.
So this could be your problem. When you first connect the firewire cable to your mac from the saff you will see on the inputs a signal coming from nowhere. This is the mac syncing with the saff. Im pretty sure its the same with the LE but you must wait until your Line Mode(pad) lights turn green this means the two are connected. Try waiting for this it may take upto 3 or 4 mins sometimes depending if you are using the external powersupply or not.
If you have already done this and still nothing try this. FIrst plug a guitar into an input of the saff and confirm there is a signal being produced. If so your problem may be in your system prefs.
Apple menu --> System prefs----> sound
you will see a window with 3 tabs labled input, output and sound effects.
go to input and confirm that the saffire is in the below list and highlighted, the same for output.
Ignore sound effects.
Also i just looked at my saffire and i am not being rude now but i am assuming that your new to this tech. so there is a pot(knob) on the front for your saffire labled monitor, this is your main volume for the system.
hope this helps my friend.

Firewire connection lost

Ok, here it is. There is an answer is the answer based section on the Focusrite website. Basically it is recognizing it as a firewire device and not an audio device, or so I have gathered. So you need to uninstall the Saffire software and then: 1. Find your FireWire (IEEE 1394) controller in Device Manager (START>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>). 2. Click "Update driver" 3. Select "Browse my computer for driver software" 4. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" 5. Install the driver that ends with "(Legacy)". 6. Reinstall your Saffire driver using the latest version from the Focusrite website, and re-connect your device.
Hope this helps,
Cheers - DJ Zerokewl

Crackling when recording with saffire

Without much info to go on I would first make sure that your input levels are not set too high when recording causing clipping and digital distortion on playback. Usually this is the thing that causes crackling sounds. Rather hard to fix after the fact and you may have to rerecord those tracks to get a cleaner sound you are happy with.
