Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

Hi guys, i have a portable air conditioner 9000btu 'ariagel ag90' window) that works great for the first 5 minutes, until gradually the unit makes more and more noise until it shudders quite violently , returns to its normal noise and blows out hot air for 5 minutes. This hot air seems enough to cancel out the cooling it does. then after a while it cools gradually I've read alot about this air con problem, but nothing regarding the gradual noise and shudder. The slide out filter at the back seemed clean enough . Question. Do these signs point to a freon leak or dirty coils (id rather know before i open it up and risk breaking something) ??

thefirst expert told me the freon is the cause of the outlet air being warm?....and the compressor/compressor fan is the cause of the noise and final shudder,

is there a reason then that after the noise grinds to a shuddering halt and ac returns to normal sound levels, that at this moment it also gives out the hot air. its been explained as 2 seperate problems but the timing of events seems to point to one cause, or maybe im missing something

This is due to the compressor going into thermal overload, It can be cause by really dirty coils preventing air flow,A restriction in the cap tubes or orafice, Or an over or under charge in the system. The noise is due to the compressor building up too much pressure inside before shutting off and due to the noise I would say it's a restiction inside and not an airflow issue.

The compressor is making all the noise and as soon as it goes into to thermal overload the noise stops, if the fan was making any noise it would continue to do so all the time, The cold air can only come out when the compressor is running, That is why it blows hot air as soon as the compressor shuts off.

meaning id have to dismantle the internals to find the blockage/problem?

This mean that the refrigerant line needs to be tapped and the refrigerant needs to be recovered, Then a line flush will need to be done,Then a vacuum will need to be pulled on the system to remove any debris left inside the line,The a clean recharge of the system. This is the only way to remove internal blockages..

Its a refrigerant freon problem.Either its got low or its leaking. The freon is for cooling. If its get low then the unit will loose its cooling effect. And for loud noise this can be related to the compressor and the compressor fan.Get the coils cleaned and fan cleaned then check if still the noise comes.check the fan speed if its running very slow then fan is faulty and causing noise.but if fan is fine then compressor has to be checked, its getting overheated and causing this loud noise and making the hot air come-out after it stops running. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

The first thing to do is change the batteries in the hand-held remote control. Then make sure that you are close enough to the unit and that the receiver's sensor is not dirty or obstructed.

Botton of evaporator coil freezes and compressor

This is a common problem with any type air conditioner it is caused by to much humidity in the air when the unit is not big enough to Handel the cooling I would suggest getting a bigger unit, adding another unit or a dehumidifier, or setting the unit to a higher temp. then turning it down gradually to let the ice melt and take the humidity out gradually.

Exhaust fan running slow

sounds like the compressor is turning off cause of high pressure. check the coil that the exhaust hose connects to, if dirty clean it. if the fan is not blowing enough air threw the coil the unit will build up high side pressure and cut out, but will turn back on when pressure drops. if that dont help, maybe the fan motor is bad or needs taken apart and oiled.
