Open the Intel Pro set wireless utility and check if the wireless radio is off. Also check the device manager and see if the WLAN NIC is disabled or if it shows any error code

Wireless does not appear in VAIO smart network. I have had this mini vaio working very well for 3 years. A week ago the wireless inet stopped working and doesn't even appear in the smart network box,...

You didn't post the Sony Model number or the OS you are using? Have you tried , unplugging, remove battery, plug in, reboot? Open the Control Panel , select Device Manager, scroll down to Network Adapters, open, do you see the Wireless Adapter? Is it enabled? Try to Update Driver. Have you done ALL your Windows and Sony updates? If the Network Adapter has a red X in the Tray Notification Area, it's there but not connected. Click on the Icon and see what Available Networks appear. If your wireless is working, Choose your SSID, enter Security Key and connect.

Cannot the wireless internet setup

Hi kschmerer,

I understand that you are not able to setup the Wireless Network Connection in your Computer.
To fix this issue, please make sure that the Physical Wireless Switch on the Computer is turned ON and then try connecting the Computer to the Wirelss Network.

You can locate the Physical Wireless Switch on the front side of the Computer. Please move the switch toward right side to turn it ON.

Once the Physical Wireless Switch is turned ON, please try setting up the Wireless Network Connection.

If you are not able to to connect to Wireless Network Connection after switching on the Physical Wireless LAN Switch, try using the Wireless Switch Setting Utility.

To enable the Wireless Network Connection using the Wireless Device Switch Utility, please double-click the Wireless Device Switch icon on the right corner of the Taskbar. Then in the open Wireless Device Switch window, please click to check the box next to Enable 2.4Ghz Wireless LAN.

This should fix the issue.

Please post back if you have any questions or require further assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My wireless has stopped working on my sonyvaio laptop and the light will not come on the wireless indicator?

you can check the drivers of the wireless card in the device manager underneath network adaptor .If you find any mark on it like "!,?,X " then you need to update the wireless drivers from the motherboard cd that you receive with the laptop or else you can go to the sony drivers and downloads  website to download the latest drivers and you will be good to go.

Sony Vaio Wireless LAN switch is ON, still no connection

I had the same exact problem and was trying everything I could do to fix it. I went on the Sony website and it turns out the solution is actually quite simple. They explain it better on their website than I can so here's the page: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C1000103&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KNOWLEDGEARTICLES_1_1&dialogID=42201093&stateId=0%200%2042205033 My problem was fixed in two shakes! Hope yours is too!
