Have you tried reformatting it?

If you have, does it spin? Can you hear it spinning when it is on?

Lightly give the hard drive a small tap with your hand. It could reset and or reposition the pin/needle inside the drive if it is hung up for some reason or another.

It is not a definite fix if it does work out. Once a hard drive begins to stop working, its pretty much gonna give out sooner or later.

Hope this helps, give me thumbs up please!

How to make recovery disks to restore to factory settings. My hard drive is dead had to put in a new one.

Find a laptop similar to yours and make the disks from that. You can often just find the image that you need for the recovery disks on the internet, and burn them on any machine to the disks and then use them.

Your hard drive may not be totally dead. Try logging in in safe mode, by hitting the f10 key when the machine is booting.
Sometimes it will boot into safe mode when it wont boot into normal mode.

Also, the operating system may been been corrupted, but the data on your hard disk may be able to be recovered by using your current disk as a slave disk. You may need an external hard disk enclosure for this.

Good luck,

That sounds like you have a dead hard disk drive if the hard disk drive is dead then you will need to have it replaced there is a way to check if it is dead or not, you will need to go into the bios for most it's usually the hi lighted tab when the bios comes if its dead the hard drive slot should say empty or none if it's not dead it will show the hard drive info

Head is stuck or i think it is dead

You may be able to get the data off of it. You'll need another computer with an IDE port and a hard disk big enough to take any data that you may be able to recover off of your old drive -- hook your dead hard disk up to it as slave ( you can see how to configure your drive as slave here )
Put the old disk in the freezer overnight and then put an ice pack on it (put a towel in between so it doesn't condensate and get the hard disk wet) to keep it cool while you try to get the data off of it.
Be sure NOT to touch the circuit board that is on the bottom of the old hard disk to anything metal or you might short it out. If the computer recognizes the old hard disk; you're in luck, copy the data off to the new computer's internal hard disk as fast as you can; your old drive may die completely at any time.

I had connected a sata 1 tb , to my genx P4vm800-m and the motherboard is not detecting it .what to do?

first make sure the power supply to the hard disk is given properly. Then see whether the SATA cable is connected propely. If both are connected properly there should be some hard disk activity. When you touch the hard disk you can sense it. If there is no activity try connecting it to your friends system still if there is no activity in your hard disk. It might be dead because of static shock.

If it is not dead you can get it resolved by connecting all the cables properly.

Lacie do not start

If it still is under warranty, then exercise the warranty, and get it repaired/replaced.

If it's out-of-warranty, then disassemble the case, and disconnect the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.

Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, and see if the disk-drive still works.

If it's dead, it's dead, unless you pay mega-dollars to a professional "Data Recovery Service" to rescue your files.

If it is dead, then buy another disk-drive that is compatible with that USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and reassemble the unit, and you'll have a brand-new external drive that you can use.
