Yes I did! It will photocopy fine with the new cartridge... and will print from one of my laptops fine but not my other laptop. Before the ink cartridge change it all worked. Now from one of my laptops it only spits out blank pages.

What is code 5? I have a Canon Pixma MP150 which no longer prints. Cartridges have been replaced with refilled ones which the printer does not recognize. What to do please? Caryl

E5 - The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed, or the ink cartridges are not installed properly.

Here is the first fix for this error:

  1. Disconnect the printer's power cord.
  2. Press and hold the power button while reconnecting the power cord.
  3. While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice (red circle with a triangle).
  4. Release the power button. The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 0.
  5. Press + to change the value from 0 to 1.
  6. When this value is 1, press color button; this will light up two LEDs. One is for plain paper and the other for photo paper. At this point, feed the printer with paper.
  7. Press the power button twice and the printer will print a test page (if this page doesn't print by itself, press the "color" button once and the test page will print).
  8. When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero.
  9. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.
  10. Close the lid and turn on the printer.
  11. Now put your cartridges back in the printer, and wait for 2 minutes. The amber light beside the black ink and color ink should have disappeared.

If you continue to get the error message, try this:
  1. Disconnect power cord.
  2. Press and hold the power button whilst plugging the cord back in.
  3. While still holding the power button, press the reset button twice. The printer's display will read "Factory 1".
  4. Allow the printer to finish warming up (takes around 25 seconds).
  5. The word "idle" appears on the screen.
  6. Disconnect the power cord.
  7. Reconnect the power cord.
  8. Turn the printer back on.

Here is the manual for the Canon MP150.

Want to set to use Black Ink only how do I turn colour off

Go to Printers and faxes -> select your printer Canon MP150, right click -> properties -> maintenance -> ink cartridge settings -> select the ink cartridge for printing -> select Black only
Remember printer need both cartridges inside it for initialized and print. You can't print only with black cartridge in printer.

I had the same problem after changing the black ink cartridge. I went to Control Panel of my computer, chose Printers, then Canon Inkjet. Chose Properties, then Maintenance, the Deep Cleaning. NOW my printer is working!!

Select print and paper is blank - all cartridges have ink

dear friend

the thing that you have changes is ink tank, not the whole unit

this problem is with all the machines which have separate ink tank and head assembly

generally head gets blocked and users keep on changing the ink tanks

friend you have to change head also to get your machine working

thanks
