Question about HP Compaq 6515b Notebook

1 Answer

Hi everyone. I have a Compaq 6515b HP computer, Windows Vista, and it tends to overheat and shut down. Last night it overheated and shut down, and today when I went to turn it on, it started up, loaded, and when going to the blue log in screen, the log in screen appeared as just the blue screen with no log in window. Then it shut down, and continued that cycle. It's been doing that all day when i try to turn it on. I'm a little worried because it's a school issued computer and I don't have a start up CD. Any ideas? Thank you!

Looks like a cooling issue. The fan can be broken or the air vent full of dust. Have it vacum cleaned.

HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx keeps overheating and shutting down

sure it does all PCs do that, full of lint, all do.
we clean it.
it has fan and vents
all fans all vents and heatsinks must breath or it overheats.
all do that not cleaned, drive your car around with the radiator blocked, boom.
all PCs run slow overheated, by DESIGN.
this slow down , reduces heat, and saves CPU/GPU burn up.
just like my chevy, truck, it cuts cylinders to save the engine.
same deal both.

same deal; same reasons.

I had to fix this problem a couple years ago, it's common on Compaq's. The only way to fix it is to short out the CMOS battery on the motherboard. Doing this voids your warranty, so if you wish to follow that course I cannot tell you exactly where to go, but google's your friend. The other option you have is to call Compaq and open a ticket with tech support. If your laptop is still under warranty, you may even get a new computer.

Auto shutdown and reboot

Your harddrive is starting to go. You will need to replace your hard drive. When you computer starts running slow then it reboots itself is because it is trying to get itself to work properly, but the hard drive is not operating at full capacity. I would back up all of your files as soon as you can onto either a CD or a flash drive, to save yourself from very costly repairs if you need to have the data extracted from the hard drive

Hi, the problem sounds to me like your CPU is overheating.
Have a look or have a technician look at the cooling fan and see if it is still working.
Most CPU's are set to shut down when over hot to prevent damage.

I do not believe this is OS related.

Dust bunnies under your bed? The CPU might be overheating. Check for dust and lint blockage in the cooling fins at the lower left rear. Vacuum the stuff out.

I have repaired 3 V5000s overheating because of dirt.

When you are trying to solve problems, remove the battery and run on AC. The battery is just another variable to complicate the issue.
