SOURCE: My folder's turned into 1 KB Shortcuts on my 500 GB WD Hard Drive

I believe this is a trojan. I have the same problem. I found by going into Properties-shortcut tab- you have to rename the shortcut to the correct shortcut. You should notice some wierd file name like "keuiku.scr." Simply rename it to the original name and it works for me.

SOURCE: My pc cannot detect my

It could be a few things.....First, your drive could be going could maybe even just have a power problem.

I would try a few things to troubleshoot this.

  • Check your power. Make sure the cords are plugged in tightly on either end. If it is plugged into a power strip, maybe try another strip, or wall outlet. Make sure any power strip is also switched on. If Windows is having trouble detecting it, it may not be seeing it as a powered device.
  • Try another USB port. Sometimes Windows can have trouble installing a driver.....on occasion swapping the port can help. or you could have a USB port not working properly.
  • with the drive powered on put your ear up to it and listen for any strange sounds. Clicking and grinding that are not they typical sounds you hear from a drive could indicate that the drive is dying. (Drives generally make some random sounds as it is accessing data and the whirring sound of the platters spinning.....but a rhythmic or constant click would be a bad thing...or some grinding sounds as well) If you think your drive is going bad, it's best to get the data copied elsewhere off of it if you get a "last chance"
  • if the drive is dying, I have heard of some people putting the drive in the freezer, or even giving it a whack with a screwdriver (if the drive arm is stuck, this could unstick it...but really I wouldnt recommend it unless you have exhausted every possible option)
  • If you think it is a power problem, you could buy a USB Drive adapter like this one: (You can get them much cheaper on eBay actually) With this device you can remove the actual drive from the enclosure, and try hooking it up directly using the drive adapter (The enclosure has the power supply to the drive, so if you have a power problem, using the drive adapter may take that out of the mix)
  • If you get one shot....copy the data off of it just in case....and make sure you have backups in the future to try and avoid problems like this.
Good Luck

Your WD HDD have been attacted by viruses for your computer or outside computer where you used it last. Make sure that you have an up to date antivirus software, scan your computer or the external hard drive, explore your computer, go to tools - folder options under view files & folders select show hidden files and folders apply and ok it.

It sounds like your hard drive is virus infected. Have you tried to scan this drive with your computer antivirus tool?
You should always be careful when you decide to separate/delete some suspicious files.
Or you prefer to firstly use a hard drive data recovery freeware that could deeply scan your computer and recover back all your needed data back:

Remember to back up everything important on different drives next time.

This is usually a signal that a virus is at work. Check that your computer has been checked and is clear. Then check your thumb drives-all of them including your external hard drives.

I believe some virus caught your computer. If you can't find you're files try this.
-Go to that hard disk.
-In the menu bar look for tools.
-Folder option
-In the folder option window click view
-look for hidden files and folders
-In the 2 radio buttons click show hidden files and folders
-click apply.
If this is correct there is a way to remove those hidden things.
-Select the file or folder you wish to not hide.
-right click and look for properties
-unchecked hidden files and apply

hope this helps. Thank you for using Fixya!
