I think the button stuck due to dust etc for which you may press the button and then try to keep upside the button

How to view

Connect the power and data cables securely to the back of the monitor and the computer. Try plugging the computer and or monitor into another outlet to be sure there is no problem with the outlet. Go to the Control Panel and click on "System and Security" and then click on "Power Options. Click on "Change Plan Settings" and adjust the brightness of your screen. Push the button or buttons on the bottom front of the monitor to access the monitor controls. Scroll through the menus and look for a brightness control or contrast setting. Use the button or buttons on your monitor to adjust the brightness. Hope this helps

I purchased my Norcent computer monitor four years ago. Now, the sub-menu Contrast/Brightness selection keeps popping up on my screen. So, I have to either push the #1 button to Exit or the #2 Adjust...

Hi,

It seems to be a hardware issue with the buttons. They are stuck or the rubber cushion under the button has gone bad. That's the reason they are getting pressed automatically. You may take to a local store for a small repair.

My LCD is completely dark - I can 'just' see the desktop, but can't do anything. If I turn the LCD monitor off and then on, I get maybe 2 seconds of the desktop - not long enough to do anything.

This sounds like the CFL tubes are not working properly, this is common.
If under warranty then return it, if not then get a technition to replace tubes.
Or it might be cheaper to buy a new 20" LCD screen.

Please do make sure though that the brightness is set to it's maximum by using the menu buttons on the screen itself. It would be some-thing like menu then right arrow to brightness then select button, right button again to increase the brightness.

Please rate, it's the thumbs up.
Thanks

The up/down button on your flat panel is stuck. Please contact Dell Technical Support to have the monitor replaced if its still within warranty.

Monitor is to bright

Your monitor has brightness and contrast controls either on the bottom or the right side. Sometimes you have to push the menu button and then scroll to the proper setting. If this is the case, there will be an "up" and a "down" button to use.
Once you are in the correct menu, you will have to push the menu button or the enter button to activate the setting. This all depends on the monitor model.

E173FP 17" LCD Monitor Problem

I have the same problem. It seems like a virus to me, but my anti-virus doesn't find anything. I went to the main menu on the moniter and changed the display time to five seconds and locked the OSD display. Now all the appears is a smaller box showing a lock which goes out in five seconds. It is still annoying, but less intrusive then before. Hopefully, some one will determine a permanent fix for this problem.

Monitor problem

Sounds like you have a coincidental hardware failure. The reset button usually sets the monitor to factory default which is good in most uses. A rolling pattern on the screen is occasionally due to electronic interferrence such as a mobile phone in the vacinity. As you say your screen is fading completely suggests a hardware failure and nothing to do with your pressing the reset. If your monitor is less than 3 years old (standard screen warranty) I would contact the manufacturer and they may send you a new one.
