My Synergy F3 speakers have both high range and low range posts, at present wiring is in the high range post but I would like more bass, without byamping can I connect to the low range posts to get more bass without causing damage to speakers or AV, also hve a Velodyne powered sub connected from preout on the AV to line input on sub. Yes. You can get more bass by either attaching an additional pair of wires to your other binding posts, or reattach the supplied jumpers between the high and low range, or you can make your own jumpers with solid core wire.

Why is there four plugs on the back of speakers?


With four plug you will have a jumper from on plug to the other. (e.g. Positive to positive and negative to negative.) This is for single connection (two wires.) If you use two connections (four wires) you take out the jumpers. the bottom pair is normally for the bass and the top for treble. This is to make the speakers clearer, and sound better. As for louder,? I don't know some people think it does some don't. With better clarity of sound, you do get the feeling of it being louder.

I put a sub in my 2002 Altima but when I turn it up the bass cracks on the door speakers??? What do I do to get all the bass on the sub


Hi Ethan,

What you're looking for is called a "crossover". A crossover is an electronic filter for an audio or speaker circuit. In an audio circuit, a crossover is used to prevent or pass certain frequencies or a range of frequencies from passing through it. Since your sub will reproduce the bass or low frequencies, you don't want other speakers to reproduce them. A band pass filter on your door speakers will do this for you. A band pass filter passes only a range or "band" of frequencies and blocks those that are above and below the range or band of frequencies selected. Installing a band pass filter will prevent the very high & very low frequencies from getting to the door /dash speakers. Likewise, you should consider connecting a low pass filter to your subs, too. The low pass filters work a little differently from of the way band pass filters work - they only allow low frequencies to get to the sub - blocking all the other higher frequencies (your other speakers are better suited to reproduce those). Lastly, you would install a high pass filters on tweeters. Tweeters are designed to reproduce only the high frequencies - sending mid and low frequencies to them is wasting power and can cause damage to them.

You purchase the filters for specific crossover points (the block / unblocked point) as determined by the individual speakers. If a sub has a frequency response of 20Hz - 100Hz, a low pass filter of 100Hz would be ideal. Remaining filters would need to begin at 100Hz - assuming the mid-range speakers have a frequency response beginning at 100Hz. A band pass filter of 100Hz - 3KHz would fit the bill nicely if the mid-range speakers go up to 3Khz Match the high end of the band pass to the high end of the frequency response of the mid-range speakers. Next, a high pass filter at 3KHz would allow only the high frequencies to your tweeters. Basically, you want to have the entire audible range 20Hz - 20KHz covered by the speakers and have the crossover points that match the frequency response ranges of the speakers.

Can we use the subwoofer as an amplifier for speakers? it has jacks for speaker in/out, but i can't figure out how to make it work because the speakers have no sound.


I don't believe this hookup is amplified; but, if you have used the regular unfiltered speaker connections from your receiver/amplifier to hookup the subwoofer, the system will pass the signal thru the outputs subject to the crossover adjustment on the back panel. You cannot get the full signal if your system is sending only the bass signal to the subwoofer. I have copied the instructions below from the manual. High-Pass Control
• If you hooked up your subwoofer
as shown in Hookup
3 on page 4, you also have
the capability of adjusting

some low-frequency
sounds, also set this control
to a lower frequency
setting, between 50Hz –
100Hz. This will concentrate
the subwoofer’s
efforts to the ultradeep
bass sounds, while your
main speakers continue to
reproduce the mid-bass
information. If you are
using smaller bookshelf
speakers that do not extend
to the lower bass frequencies,
set the high-pass crossover
control to a higher setting,
between 125Hz – 180Hz.
With this setting, your main
speakers will not have the
burden of reproducing any
low-frequency sounds.
• If you hooked up your subwoofer
as shown in Hookup
1 on page 3, the high-pass
frequency is fixed at 180Hz.
• If you hooked up your subwoofer
as shown in Hookup
2 on page 4, there is no
high-pass control. Unless
your receiver/amplifier
incorporates a high-pass
crossover, your main speakers
will continue to get a
full-range signal.
Final adjustment and blending
of the low-pass and high-pass
controls may evolve over several
listening sessions. A good
starting point would be to set
both the low- and high-pass
controls to the same frequency
and adjust from that point.

Can't get wharfedale melton 2 tweeter to work. Looked inside cabinet and need advice on internal wiring please. These are very old, but one works perfectly and the 12'' bass driver on the problem speaker...


All the electronic parts you can see inside the speaker (usually capacitors, coils and resistors) are responsible for breaking the full audio band (bass - middle - treble) in parts (2 for your case) and feed each part to the appropriate speaker. By that I mean that you must not use your speaker without the cross-over (this is the name of the circuit) since this can harm your speakers. The sound from a speaker without crossover will be terrible for your ears too. Eventhually you can try to connect your tweeterat the amplifier's output leads, assuming that the volume level will be very low. Using this connection you can just check if the tweeter is working ok or not, so you can find where is the problem. By the way I don't think that a coil is burned out, try to see some resistor possible burned out.

What does the F3-1 code on a Maytag flat top double oven range mean?


Hi there,

Well error F3 means open or shorted sensor. The cancel key resets the control and stops the alarm. If fault is still present it will reactivate the alarm when the cook mode is chosen. The error F3-1 indicates problem with Sensor of upper oven
Solution - Check sensor and wiring for shorted or open circuit. you need a multimeter to check them. Please post comments for further help or information........

Bass only going to rear speakers. How do I get


Hello michaelandta,

Check your filter settings on the front channels. It sounds like they may be set to "high pass" which would eliminate the bass frequencies. If you are using the amp to power normal speakers, it's usually best to set the filters for "full range". If the amp only has "low pass" and "high pass" settings, turn them both OFF.

Bi-amp


After examining a picture of a 5802 ( I have been servicing adcom for over 20 years ), these are not bi amp posts, but bi wire posts.

Bi-amp means that 2 amps are being used, one for highs, one for lows. This means that you have no crossovers in the speakers, instead, you have an electronic crossover between the amps and the pre-amp. The highs and lows are separated in the electronic crossover. One amp handles the lows, one handles the highs.

Bi-wire means that you have the crossovers still inside the speakers. The amp handles the full range of music ( highs-mids-lows ). Different kinds of speaker wire produce different results. If you have bi-Wire terminals on your speaker, they come with shorting wires, that tie the tweeter + to the woofer + on the back of the speaker, and the tweeter - to the woofer - . When the shorting wires are removed completely, you have now electrically separated the tweeter and woofer from each other, while maintinaing the crossovers ( inside the speaker ) for each.When this is done, you can now bi-wire the speakers and amp, and use different kinds of wire for the lower frequencies and the upper frequencies, depending on your ears ( everyone hears a little differently, thats why there are so may makers of components, and wire ).

Why do we have crossovers?.....the tweeter voice coils ( the things that make the sound ) are made of hair thin wire. This wire cannot handle much power and if you were to put bass in to a tweeter, you would burn the tweeter out almost instantly. A tweeter is a very light, fast moving device which can react very quickly to high frequency sounds ( symbols, triangles, guitar strings....). Woofers are more rugged. They have voice coils made of heavier wire and are designed for larger movements that Bass demands. Subsequently, woofers aren't very good for high frequencies because they are slower devices.

So what do we do ?.....Keep the lows away from the tweter and the highs away from the woofer.....thats the job of the crossover.

In the event that your speaker has the crossover OUTSIDE the speaker box, you should check ( as always ) with the manufacturer of the speaker to see how it can be changed to suit your needs. Remember to always read and follow your owners manual. Good luck....Rob
