My Miele Twist Vacuum cleaner won't get in the upright position. It stops at about 60 degrees

The only lever is the one that allows it to lay flat. I don't see any type of clip. It used to work fine, then it would not want to lock in place, now it won't lock upright at all.

  • kkistler Aug 23, 2010

I posted the last comment about not finding any lever besides the foot lever that releases the lock to keep the vacuum upright.

  • kkistler Aug 23, 2010

Thank you, but I have the owner's manual. It says to simply click the vacuum in the upright position. It won't go in the upright position. There is nothing in the manual that troubleshoots this problem.

My Miele Twist upright vacuum cleaner cannot be positioned upright. It stops about at the 60 degree mark. It used to click into position, then it became somewhat loose and would occasionally drop down. Now it won't upright at all. Nothing happens when I depress the foot pedal or if I try to press it up.

I know this is an old post, but in case it helps anyone newly with this problem... the same thing just happened to my Miele Twist vacuum and I was able to repair it myself.

Problem: vacuum fell gently backwards, went into the fully reclined position and it could not be returned to the upright position. The foot pedal that operates the upright/recline position was also permanently depressed and could not be pushed or pulled fully upright.

Solution: With the vacuum lying flat and right side up, you will see a slightly rounded, dark grey plastic shield exposed in the swivel neck area. It is this shield that is causing the foot pedal and main body to catch and stopping it from returning to its upright position. This shield needs to be tucked all the way up into the swivel neck until it is flush with the edge of the exterior plastic panel piece that has the logo words "swivel neck" written on it (you might have to jiggle it a little bit, but you'll find it is very loosely placed and you should be able to move it around). Holding it in this fully tucked position with one hand, carefully lift the body back up into the upright position with your other arm and the foot pedal will automatically release back into its upright position when the body clicks back into place.

Hope this helps someone!

Mine is also stuck in the 'down' position, and will not return to the upright posistion. The foot lever seems to be stuck down and will not allow the body to return to upright.

All I can gather from searching the net, is that there's a clip feature that allows it to go fully upright. Check on the unit for a foot clip lever, or other lever that will move to allow it to go upright. There's always this device on most vacuums, and once discovered, works!
Good luck, thanks for using FixYa, and hope this helps.

Hello,
Please do follow the below steps to do it yourself.
Tool you need are coin or marble, screwdriver.
First swicth your vacuum cleaner setting to use the hose and turn your device on. if the hose is working, turn off your vacuumand turn the device over.
With the use of the screwdriver remove the cover that enclose s the brush assembly.
Lay the vacuum cleaner as flat as you can get it.

Reach in where the debris enters the cleaner underneath the vacum cleaner. if you feel a clog, remove as much of it as you can with your fingers. If there is still more debris, get the help of your unwound wire coat hanger of industrial strength pipe cleaner to get it out. you might need the help of a broom handle to push it up through the body of the cleaner to where it enters the canister or bag. if you have successfully pushed the clog up, reach in and remove it.
Reassemble the brush casing. Flip the vacuum back over , plug it in, turn it on, and attempt to vacuum the floor. Celebrate by cleaning up the debris that fell on the floor.

Thanks for asking fixya , hope this solve the problem

There is a switch in the ball which is activated as you pull the handle back from the upright position. The lever that activates the switch pivots as the handle rotates backwards. Try to determine if this lever could be broken or mislocated somehow..

The hose is blocked, how do I get it off to unblock?

Hey, this is Tristan with Crucial Vacuum,

In order to remove the hose to start unblocking it, do the following:
1. Put the vacuum in the upright position
2. Press the release button of the telescopic wand and remove the handle from the hose
3. Push the hose elbow downward into the catch hooks.
4. Undo the suction hose by twisting it at the elbow.

If the blockage isn't in this location you can do the following to search further for blockages:

5. Open the service flap on the back of the vacuum.
6. Unscrew the screws and pull the cover free.

Below I have attached a link to the users manual for the Miele S7210. You should refer to page 30 to view the diagrams pertaining to my suggestions.

Milie won,t stay upright

If your miele is laying all the way down like mine is and will not stand upright..look for a dark gray corrugated plastic part where the handle bends at the base. This is above the silver holed plastic filter holder. This may be stuck. I just pulled mine out and then I was able to stand it upright again. I wasn't able to put it back in but I think it is there just to cover up the inside workings of the vacuum. So I left it out.

Miele S7210 red light on

You may have more dog hair in the main hose. Pull the hose out of the body, turn the lower hose swivel 90 degrees parallel to the floor and twist the hose off. You will see where to remove it at the swivel. Also check the port door on the back of the vacuum near the bottom of the upper section. It can be looks like a parallelogram with 2 plastic screws, twist the screws half a rotation and gently pry the cover off. After clearing out any debris, replace the cover and fasten the screws. A small LED flashlight will be very handy for checking all of the ports and hoses.

I have a miele upright S7210 and can not find the replacement hose. Any ideas?

What do you mean by the replacement hose? The original part for your 7210 twist includes the handle grip to lock in to the adjustable wand, or do you mean the short hose in the base behind the brush roll?

The vacuum is stuck with the handle at about a 40 degree angle from the floor. Pushing on the two bottom levers does not bring the handle to an upright position. The motor is working fine.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. If the cleaner won't return to the upright position after use, it may be because the valve carriage has become misaligned. This is easy to rectify - please see the video guide from our Support page:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1376&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

You should be able to recline your DC07 easily into the vacuuming position by placing a foot on the cleaner head and lowering the handle. The user guide supplied with your cleaner demonstrates how to do this - in case you don't have yours to hand, here's an online copy:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc07_opmanual_usa.pdf

Following the steps shown in the video should resolve your issue. However, if you have any further concerns, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting checks over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Popped the lid open to change vacuum cleaner bag...now lid won't close. It's stuck at 90 degree angle. Is a button to release it?

Hi bndennis,

Please check the spring on your lid, it may be keeping the door open. Miele vacuum cleaners mainly use a spring concept for keeping lids open - merely pushing it down will lock it at the bottom.

Kind Regards :-)
