Just return your system or exchange it. I have same problem 2 times. First with 40G system only 2 weeks old. Exchanged that one with 80g system. This time it last 3 weeks. Now returned and got my refund back. Will not buy PS3 again until they solve this disc drive issue.

If YOUR WARRANTY IS UP. taking the ps3 apart is easy as long as you have the rght screw drivers. getting the plate off is the hardest part. there is a hex screw under the warranty sticker. after removing the screw, simply slide the plate down and it will pull off. then there are about 8 philips head screws on the casing itself. after removing these screws the top is hinged on the front side of the system... lift the back untin it is at a 90 degree angle and and remove the flat wire that goes to the SDcard slots by lifting the black flapwith your fingernail, then the top is removed. at this point the disk drive is no longe fastened by any screws of clips. pull the plug from the left side toward the front out to diconnect that set of wires. then there is a big flat silver strip connected to the bottom of the drive. once again lift the black flap to release this strip.now you are ready to open the drive itself. there are 2 silver screws on the bottom rear of te drive and 3 black ones at the front. you will need a very small philips head screwdriver for these. then the gray casing will come off. thelense is not exposed yet. there are still 5 or 6 tiny black screws on the top of the drive that will remove the black plastic case THERE ARE 2 TINY WIRES COVERED BY TAPE BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PULL ON THESE WHEN TAKING THE BLACK COVER OFF
. now the lenseis exposed. simply clean it with rubbing alcohol and q-tips and reassemble the machine. BE SURE NOT TO GET ANY OF THE WIRES PINCHED WHEN SETTING THE DRIVE BACK IN PLACE AND DONT FORGET THE LITTLE METAL GROUND ON THE RIGHT REAR OF THE DISK DRIVE. ANY ?S E-MAIL ME AT [email protected]

This may be a case of replacing the laser lens. If your console is out of warranty, take it to your local Game Stop, or somewhere that does Sony repair. PSR does Sony authorized repair, but it usually involves shipping. You can contact PSR at 877-777-3491, or email at [email protected]. Hope this was helpful
