Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Like many others I have having problems in fitting a new belt to a Simpson Sirocco 350. Who ever designed this machine did not want it repaired. I fix a lot of appliances over the years but this one has me beat. I have found that by turning the back cover 90 deg I can get into the motor and pully but can't get the tension for the drum to turn . I feel I have not fed the Motor /pully combination correctly . Have you a diagram to follow. Thanks Harry

Well I fixed the problem myself. This is how to do it .Remove the covers and fan belt on the back . Place the unit so the motor is on the bottom left hand corner. the back cover can now be moved 90 deg to the left and remove the wire from the 2 clips holding the cable . Now remove the spring that goes from the motor to the rib on the drier case. The motor can now be swung down. With the drum belt around the drum making sure the groved side of the belt against the drum towards the back. Feed the belt around the pullykeeping to the right of it and then onto the motor drive. Replace the spring . Now replace the cover to the correct position replacing the cable in their clips and open the front and guide the rim of the drum into its position. now put some screws in the back cover. Check that the drum is driven when the motor is turned by hand. Place the drier on its face and finish the job . Hope this helps. Harry

Is it a big job to replace the heater element on the Simpson Sirocco 350 dryer?

It won't be the element unless a wire from it is grounding against the casing. You most likely have some sort of issue with the home breaker.

Simpson Sirocco 350 Dryer cuts out after 5 minutes I am told it is the heat sensor attached to the red button inside the door but not sure how to access the sensor to replace it.

Its probably NOT the sensor causing the problem. Have you checked the fan belt, that its not broken, come off the pulley or stretched? Put your hand over the airvent outlet at the back after it has been running a few minutes, if there is a lot of hot air coming out, then belt is ok. If not, replace the fanbelt with a new one, and problem will be solved. The sensor pops out because of overheating - usually because either the fan belt is broken or stretched, or the lint filter is blocked. Hope this helps!

I repaired my broken fan belt with a drop of super glue - there is virtually no load on the belt and it now works perfectly again. A 30 sec quick fix.

Simpson may have a kit available for accomplishing this. Also, your dryer may have several optional ways of venting.

Simpson Sirocco 350 Dryer not heating

there is an oval cover on the back of the dryer. Remove this cover and you will probably find a broken fan belt. A replacement costs about $20 Aus.

NOTE: If you have been using the dryer for a while in this condition there will certainly be moisture inside the dryer. Replace the belt and leave the dryer for a few days to dry itself out (motor and electricals) before firing it up.
