It's in the phone settings. You will need the 4-digit security code to complete the process. Default is either "0000" or the last 4 digits of your phone number.

mine did the same thing, it is most likely a manufactuturer problem, which is covered by the warranty. just take it back and explain the problem and they can exchange it for you ;D

it's the last four numbers of the telephone number for that phone .. , it's the last 4 digits of the phone number that it had when it came to you

Possible the earpiece has gone bad. Can you test with another earpiece?
Remove battery and examine metal contact points for dirt. Can clean with a pencil eraser.
