Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I am currently having issues connecting to the internet with the second computer in our house. It is a Dell desktop (Dimension 3000) it appears that the Ethernet card is no longer working due to the fact that the lights on the back of the tower are not responsive when an Ethernet chord is plugged into it. What are my options???

1) If under warranty, service it 2) Buy $35 USB-Ethernet adapter from WalMart here: WALMART

Well apparently Dell told me that the computer is no longer under the warranty. However, I have tried to connect to the Internet using the USB connection that came with the modem, but it still would not work. So I am worried that the USB-Ethernet adapter solution may not work???

Don't worry, the USB port on the modem isn't supposed to connect to a computer anyway. It's for servicing form the cable company. The USB adapter should work fine.

Hello Mr. Expert I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I upgraded to bios to A03. Is it possible to upgrade to a higher version. Thanks,

Hi!

The A03 is for now the latest version for the BIOS of Dell Dimension 3000

And a tip for you: upgrading bios is only necessary when real issues occure and the computer doesn't work properly.

Please let me know if it helped

Best regards!

I had a power outage. When I turned on the Dell it came on but said the DSL didnt connect so I shut down. From that point on, I only get the bliking amber light when i push to start up. All the other...

From what I am understanding you are having issues connection to the Internet after your power outage. If this is the case you would need to power cycle everything,

Start by shutting down the pc from the start menu.

Remove the power from your router and modem,

You will need to wait 30 seconds before you can plug the modem back in, once all lights appear on your modem replace the power to your router.

Once all the lights on the router appear...Power the pc on. This should resolve your issue.

Windows xp screen appears on Dell dimension 3000 desktop. It tries to boot up but then the screen goes black and just sits there. How do I fix this? I need to just get my data files off.

When you first turn on your computer, start pressing the F8 key about once every 1/2 second until you get to the boot menu. From there, select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" (if you want to transfer files via network connection). The rest should be pretty self explanatory.

The computer has lost internet connection.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check that the internet signals are being received through your Dell Dimension. You’ll need to left click on the Network Connection icon in the bottom right and then click on the Network and sharing Center and click on the status and you will be able to see the status of your network connection. If there is any red (x) mark against your computer, network connection and internet, then you’ll need to click on this sign to diagnose the error and resolve the issue.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Dell Dimension 4700C Desktop PC, internet issue.

Try and test the computer and modem connection by hooking it up directly by an ethernet cable..

If the internet connection stays solid when cabled up..

Then try either changing or removing the wep or wpa encryption on your wireless network, and seeing if that allows the computer to stay connected.

Also try disabling the firewall on your computer, and also on your modem.

Go to the device manager and scroll down to your ethernet controller. highlight the device, right click and uninstall it but keep the drivers. Turn off the computer completely...pull the plug out of the back and wait 10 seconds and plug back in. wait another 30 seconds and reboot. Let windows find the hardware and reinstall the drivers. If windows asks to search windows update, allow it to do so and then after it stabilizes see if you can open a browser window.

Dell Dimension Shut Down

Hi

You query suggest you have Dell Dimension 3000. Dell Dimension 3000 is a desktop PC and does not have a battery backup by itself.

I am assuming the battery backup you are referring to is a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). If this is correct then by your description of the issues, the UPS may be faulty (indicated by the Red light and beeping).

Disconnect the computer's power cord from the UPS and connect it to a wall power outlet to confirm or rule out the UPS as the offending device.

If this does not help reply with more info

You need to install your computers drivers.

You noted that you have a dimension 3000.

You need videocard drivers to change resolution and networkcard drivers to connect to internet.

Il look for the drivers you need a post them in a minute If i find them.

Ethernet Controller

I had to reinstall XP like 6 months ago, on a dimensions 3000. just reinstall the drivers. here i think this is all of the drivers.
just start "Dell Driver Reset Tool.EXE"
and run "Sownd driver for 3000.EXE"
driver for vga "Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller.exe"

and the Ethernet driver "Intel PRO100 VE Network Connection.exe"
Click Here for a zip of all the drivers.
