Yes I can tell you, and show you, how to replace the CMOS battery in your IBM Aptiva 2198 series desktop computer.

The battery is a CR2032 battery. A type of watch battery.
(One of the drugstores downtown in my neighborhood, has them for $1.69. Posted this so you can compare prices)

I would like you to go to Lenovo Support.
Specifically, to the download page for the Reference Guide, for the IBM Aptiva 2178, and 2198 series of desktop computers.
(The download is free)

On this page I would like you to left-click on -
,in blue.

This Reference Guide is a PDF file.
(The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it. Adobe Reader automatically opens PDF files)

After you click on the link you may be staring at a blank white page, for up to 20 seconds.
The file is downloading in the background.
Just wanted you to be aware.

When the file has fully downloaded, you have two options to get to the page I need you to go to.

1) You can go to the Bookmarks menu on the left side, and left-click on the + sign next to -
Chapter 7. Installing internal options

Then left-click on - Removing the cover

2) Go up to the top header of the PDF file, and locate the page number box.
It's to the right of the blue Down Arrow.

Put your mouse cursor in the page number box.
Left-click once.
Type 81
Press the Enter key.

Removing the Computer Cover.

First of all unplug the computer from power.

(Unplug the power cord from the surge protector. DO NOT unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. {Power Supply}
This can cause a power surge, and fry parts out)

Work on a table.

(Not trying to sound condescending. There are those who work on a bed, or DIRECTLY on a carpet floor.
This = No
High areas of Static electricity)

Once the computer case is open, follow Anti-Static Precautions.
I will outline this in a moment.

Remove all cables from the back of the computer. If you are not exactly sure as to where they go, now is the time to make notes, and a drawing.

There are three thumbscrews, to remove from the back of the computer's case.
These screws are along the outside edge, of the back of the computer case.
(They may be tightened enough, that a flat tipped screwdriver will have to be used, to assist removing them)

Looking at the back of the computer, one screw is at the Top Right, approximately 2 inches down.
One screw is at the Bottom Right, approximately 2 inches up.

The last screw is on the Top Left, approximately 2 inches down.

Once all three thumbscrews are removed, the computer case slides towards the back of the computer.
The part that removes is a upside down U shaped metal shell.

Resembles a Hood.

Now it's time to follow Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:
Your body carries Static electricity.

Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components (Parts), inside a computer.

Computer Unplugged from power, work on a table, computer case open, TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case.

Should you get up, and walk away in the middle of working on your computer, upon your return be SURE to touch the metal frame again.

[ Best method is to buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap, (About $6), and connect the alligator clip to the metal frame of the open computer case. Electro Static Discharge ]

Now proceed to Page 87.
Number 13 points to the CMOS battery on the motherboard.

Looking at the motherboard with the Processor to the top, Ram Memory slots to the right, the CMOS battery, and battery holder, are down towards the bottom right corner.

(You have an Intel Slot 1 processor.
It is an Intel Pentium III 866, and uses the Coppermine Core.

You will see three tabs. Specifications, Pictures (4), Comments (0)
You are on the Specifications page.
If you want to see photos of your Processor, left-click on the Pictures tab.

Just thought I would throw that in)

The CMOS battery is a flat, round battery, about the size of a US nickle.

The battery holder has a flat metal clip, that is spring steel, which holds the battery in place.

The flat spring steel clip is eased up, on the side that is not connected.
This allows you to use a fingernail, (Hopefully), and slide the battery out.
Sometimes a tool is needed to ease the battery out, while gingerly holding up on the flat spring clip, with a fingernail, or fingertip.

I advise not using a metal tool, or object, unless your are REAL careful.

The battery has a Positive symbol on it. ( + )
This ALWAYS goes UP.

Please post any questions you may have in a Comment.

How do i replace built-in battery in apple iPhone5?

  • According to my information your one-year warranty for iPhone includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. First check it whether your iPhone is within warranty or not. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a Battery replacement for iPhone, subject to local tax. For the products like built-in batteries, only Apple should replace the batteries or an Apple authorized service provider. Apple and its authorized service providers will ensure the spent battery is recycled properly, since batteries should always be recycled or disposed separately from household waste.

When does the batteries need replacement?

the shaver will slow down as the batteries discharge. To suddenly stop suggests either loose batteries or faulty switch. There should be a charging cradle for the shaver to keep it working but if you need batteries then open the battery cover and replace with the same batteries.
