My recorder keeps saying the blank disk I am using is invalid and therefore I am unable to record. I already change the type of disk and I still get the same message invalid disk.
I contacted Gateway and found out that the AR-230 will not work with anything more than 4x DVD's. Usually it will format DVD-RW's but avoid memorex brand. Usually any other cheep brand will work.
I have a similar problem except my ar-230 has always played anything I have put in it until recently. Now old dvds that were recorded both on the system and my pc all of a sudden give an invalid disk message even though they have been watched on the system many times before. Funny thing is that it will still play store bought dvds and few rewritables. I don't understand why the exact dvds that used to be played on the system no longer play. Most of my dvds are recorded on Maxwell disks.

Will not play back DVDs recorded on it. Worked for a few years with few hassles, then in past month or so, intermittent problems. Huge issue right now - 6-8 DVDs need to be used for a presentation and they cannot be played or finalized. I took one to a tech at computer store. He said he thought that the initializing info had not been laid down and that the other data was not recoverable. Any ideas?
