The actual picture is great except for the color. the upper corners are dark, lower corner are normal. can't afford high repair bill

  • caboatman Aug 23, 2010

I would like one more expert comment before I junk the TV. Can anything be salvaged like the bulb that is only a few months old?

  • caboatman Aug 23, 2010

The comment on a solution was helpful in determining what I need to do which is junk the TV at a loss. I doubt Sony would give me a discount on anything. I do not understand the remark on "Show you appreciation by commenting on Sony. However, Mr. ginko , thank you very much for the information.

Hi.

The green haze on this model is a factory defect.
Apparently most of the time the problem is caused by an optical block defect. Optical block is a very expensive part, and reapir will cost nearly same value of TV.

Here a forum on problem.

There is a class action that resulted in a partial settlement. Call sony and quote this document, you should be entitled to a total refund on optical block purchase, or to a big discount on a Sony replacement TV.

Do not forget to accept.

Regards.

call SONY at 888-993-7669 give them the serial number and about when you purchased the set and they will give you 3 choices....#1. a new top line 52' lcd for $550 delivered, #2. a 55" lcd for $275 delivered, #3. a free 46" lcd again delivered. They will not pay for repairing the set....they said it will fail (optical block) again in time.

The fault might not have been associated with the projection lamp but could be the fault or failure or weakness of the LCD imager.
It is possible that this section is faulty, the processor or the display which is giving out the green colouring.
Remove the main boards and check if there is any dry soldering in the sections , use a good low power anti static ironto do this touch up job.
replacement of the board might be expensive and not recommended but if you can salvage one from a projector tthat was dumped for other problems, like lamp , it would be easier.
Please check all connectors, plug in sockets.
Hope you find this error.
Good day

Now that you have the blink code, Google your make and model with blink codes added to the end. This will show you links to sites that will tell you what the nine blinks mean.

Sony KDS-50A2000 - bulb replaced but picture still yellow

Hi,It sounds like a light engine problem Sony is having.Basically the light of the lamp goes through tunnels that have mirrors that direct the lamp to 3 main LCD chips,These 3 LCD chips are blue, green, and red they blend to create the image and colors. When they start to fail you'll get color discoloration like what you are getting. You will need to replace the optical block because unfortunately they don't sell the LCD chips by themselves.GOD BLESS YOU!

Green cast on all channels

Hey Sandjk, I have a 3 yr old sony 60a2000. It has been turning green for the last 3 months. I thought it was the bulb needing replacement, so I just changed it. $250 down the drain. Its no better at all. I have to go to settings-picture-custom- advanced settings-white balance- and take the g-gain and g-balance to minimum values. do it for the cool and warm 1 settings. then when you cycle thru the cool neutral warm settings you will see a big difference. Not great but watchable. let me know what you think or if you found a better solution.

Sony KDS-50A2000 screen is in green tint

My Sony KDS 50 A2000 is 17 months old. Its the 50 Inch SXRD projection model. About two weeks ago the screen developed a green tint with cannot be tuned out, then a few days later the message began to appear on the screen that the bulb was nearing the end of its life and must be replaced.
Fortunately I have the Circuit City extended warranty.
I called and within just a few days a serviceman came out and replaced the projection bulb.
The Result: No change in the picture, the green tint remains on all channels, so I'm awating the next service call. Under the service warranty they have the option to repair or replace this set. If indeed this is the light engine (optical block) which I suspect and its going to cost $1,000 or more I may be looking at a new set.
When it works this is a great TV, but I have had three Sonys now including two other standard CRT models and now this one joins them in the junk heap, the other two also bit the dust after just about two years. Is it time to give up on Sony?
I know they have a class action suit on a similar model for this same problem. Caveat emptor
