Question about Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966

1 Answer

My curved shaft trimmer starts okay, but will only run at a little more than an idle and stalls when I pull the throttle open or have a full open choke. Any ideas?

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.

New Ryobi trimmer putters out at full throttle

Absolutely it can. Weight can slow it down, Friction can slow it down,. There are many things that will do exactly what you are talking but the #1 thing would be a Gummed up Carburator. EVERYONE is having the same problems right now.

What are the settings on the carb. How many turns out arfter they are both in all the way. This is on the ryobi weed eater. gas carburetor.

Turn the needles clockwise until they just seat out (stop) gently, do not force or you will ruin needles and seats. Just use your thumb and first finger on the screwdriver handle to do this so you will not put too much pressure on the needles and seats. Turn left needle 1 turn out counterclockwise ( left needle or one closest to engine is L setting) turn right needle out 1 1/4 turns counterclockwise (right needle or one closest to choke is H setting)...this should allow the engine to start...if engine floods or stalls you may have to close the needle a bit in or out in 1/4 turn increments until engine starts. Once started turn L needle in or out till you get a good steady idle (may take you a couple of tries to find the sweet spot...we're talking small adjustments...won't take much) once a good Idle is achieved... open the needle about 1/16 to 1/8 turn. Throttle up to full throttle and do the same with the right needle until you get smooth running at full throttle. Once you find the best full setting...open the right needle about 1/16 ti 1/8 of a turn to make the mixture a little rich at full throttle. This will enrich the mixture and allow more lubrication and cooling of the engine...let engine return to idle and see if you have good response from low to high speed...you may have to repeat this a couple of times...Now shut down engine and remove the spark plug...you want to see a brownish gray deposit on the ceramic and electrode....if you see it you are there !!! It may take you a couple of tries....but be patient..

Hard starting 4 cycle trimmer, 20 to 70 pulls

I got me one of these beasts and I can get her to fire for me in just 3 pulls.
(Oh yeah?! I can name that tune in just 2 notes!!)

Seriously....

Use that primer bulb. Use it with prejudice. Do NOT be afraid of it. What does this mean? Yes. Push it 10 times.

Choke full on.

Full throttle, choke fully on, give it a tug. You should see it hit and give a whitish puff of smoke.

Half choke - Position 2 - Full throttle, another tug. Should fire and rev with you still squeezing that throttle at full. Release throttle and LET IT IDLE at half choke for 30 seconds.

Move the choke completely off, continue to let trimmer idle for at least a minute to warm up the oil and block.

Git to whackin' that yard down. :D I just love my 575ES! (Polesaw attachment for the win)

Hard start tb475ss troy built weed wacker when i close the cold start lever it starts but its 75 degrees out its like the primer ball is inop but i see fuel moving through the lines when priming did not...

These 4 cycle trimmers need to be primed 10x before a cold start. The bulb will feel *firmer* on the last two or three depressions and you'll know that the carb is primed.

Full choke and and full throttle on first tug should see it hit once with a puff of smoke. Second start attempt should be in choke position two (half choke) and with full pressure on the throttle. Should rev to life on start attempt. Let the engine IDLE for 30 seconds, moving the choke to off at the end of the waiting period. Let engine idle to warm another full minute with no choke, then set to work!

Rhobi weed eater stalling

Try spraying some carb cleaner into the intake while its running - with the air filter out..
If that doesnt help & if it sat for a long time without being run - you might need to get the carb reuilt..

Hope this elps !!

Ryobi 720r trimmer starts ok but stalls when the

The carburator needs to be adjusted a little, thin our your mixture screw when the trimmer is warmed up and idling. Well how do you get it to idle? I usually have to play with the choke lever with the throttle wide open going from choke to partial choke as needed to keep it running. Adjusting can be tricky, you need a small screwdriver. Screw all the way in then back out 3 to 3.5 turns. this should get you close. Adjust idle as needed.

Ryobi 790r trimmer has low power and stalls

Maybe a quick fix and maybe not
check your muffler the factory puts a spark arrestor screen that tends to plug after awhile
there is a little plate on the side muffler that needs to be removed to access the screen you may need a torx bit or allen wrench to remove
you may have to remove the back half of the plastic cover to access the screws
remove screen and clean with carb. cleaner or equivalent make sure you can see through it and reverse the procedure to put it back

My TB475SS starts and then dies right away. i

It usually wont idle very well when it's cold, Goto #1 on the choke give the rope a couple of "quick" tugs, and then move it to #2 Give it one or 2 more tugs with a little throttle, now it should be running witha little throttle, let it run like that for a minute then move it to #3 kinda still pumping the throttle a little and it should take off fine. If this is the 4 stroke, mine did the same thing until it was broke in good. (About 4-5 uses), now I have to say its more reliable than any 2-stroke I've owned and I use it commercially. 1st or 2nd pull everytime and is ready as soon as it fires! Hope this helps!
