I just purchased a laptop friday.
i got it yesterday and .........the geek squad was supposed to have it updated and i have dial up so it took me all day to get it all updated.
then when i set up my dial up i cannot get it to save my passord to my dial up. it keeps saying something about network sharing and i am the only one that uses my computer so i need to know how to shut that off
Go into your firewall and allow TCPI connections.
And most anything related to your internet connection allow.
If you are running Vista the fire wall has most everything shut down as default settings so you need to change it to allow your IP address access.
Also in Vista you have to allow or not allow sharing in the control panel under networking.

We lost the password to a computer that we purchased at Best Buy. We took it to the Geek Squad at the store and they were able to unlock the computer and reset the password. I think it costs $30. Good luck.
You need password reset software to correct the problem , you will never get past that point if you don't have a password. I know from experience that Geek Squad has this software and can fix your problem
This is going around and I'm trying get the word out to remove your user password before any update because of this fiasco. If the Geek squad is near you they have a password removal tool called Samurai that will remove all passwords on your laptop. I'm not sure I would trust a third party program off the web with information like that, but the squad may have minmal charge for a procedure like that, it only takes a few minutes to run the disc and click a few prompts and it's done.
it is probably a trial software and yes, you would need the code from the software to keep the software licensed, they probably didnt give you the product code because of it being a trial
