I can't get my scanner to work. i have done everything i can think of but the computer just says the USB device has malfuctioned.

Hi,
your computer is displaying that message because the communication with the two devices is not complete. You need to uninstall the scanner reboot your system and then run the driver for the scanner first. At a point in the driver installation it will ask you to plug the scanner. Turn the scanner on and connect it to the computer and let it continue. Once the installation is complete, restart your system. Your computer should be able to communicate with the scanner now.
Hope this helps

Check the all functions installed properly.
Go to these steps:
Start > Control Panel >System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager
If errors on USB port presents ,then reinstall intel chip set software,it can install either by the cd that came with your board or that is must downloaded from the intel center.
If these all steps are already given then do following:
Enter bios setup by pressing F2.

Usb malfunction

The USB ports have gone bad. Just because they show up in device manager as being recognized does not mean they are working correctly. They are controlled by chips onthe motherboard and if one of those chips has gone bad, then they just won't work. The cheapest solution would be to purchase a USB card and install it, bypassing the onboard ports. Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya. Thanks! :c)
