SOURCE: chainsaw wont oil the chain and bar it is a poulan 2000 woodsman

It's probably the oiler check valve located on the crankcase just in front of the clutch. You will probably need to remove the clutch and sprocket to get at it.

SOURCE: Poulan-Pro 295 leaks excessive bar-chain oil

Most saws have a tendacy to leak after they are used. After use, just "burb" the oil fill cap to relieve any pressure. The closed oil system will siphon out all of the oil.

SOURCE: talon petrol chainsaw ac3100, bar lurication

The parent company is here:
http://www.talontools.com.au/html/about_talon.html
I couldn't find a parts list or any source for parts. You can download the operator's manual. This appears to be a Chinese chainsaw. Parts may be difficult or impossible to find.

A blunted, hooked piece of wire can be used to pull the hose in the oil tank out. I recommend the filter be replaced. Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. The oil pump is often behind the clutch. The saw can be operated without the bar and chain to verify oiler operation. Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly. GL

Once removed a GOOD local chainsaw sales/repair shop may recommend interchangeable parts.

SOURCE: old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin

Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

SOURCE: bar not recieving oil

The problem is related to the internal oil pump. The followings are the possibilities:

  • Clogged line from the oil reservoir to the pump.
  • Clogged line between the oil pump and the chainsaw bar orifice.
  • Faulty oil pump itself (common in well used/old device).
Hope it helps.

Chainsaw no oil Problems

If you are talking about the saw not oiling the bar, it's due either to a bad oil pump--a small gear pump or blocked oil passageways. Cleaning the passageways is easier than fixing the pump, so I'd start there.

No oil to bar

Remove the nuts that hold the clutch cover on, Then remove the bar and chain. Make sure the port hole in the bar is open for the oil to flow into the chain groove. The oil ports can get plugged by sawdust and chips. Bar oil is sticky. The bar and chain should be removed and cleaned on a regular basis. Clean the groove in the bar too. Also make sure the port on the saw body is open. Start the saw with the bar and chain removed, if oil doesn't flow from the port, then you have a faulty oil pump and will need to go in deeper to replace the pump parts.
Always use proper clean chainsaw bar oil. Using other types of oil can burn up your oil pump.

Just bought a McCulloch 32cc, Mdoel 3214 from a pawn shop with no manual. Does it require mixing oil with the gas and if so what ratio?

Fuel requires 2-cycle oil be added, bar oil is straight from the container.

Oil Mix Ratio:
The following ratios have been recommended for the last 10-15 years.
Dolmar, Echo, Efco, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonsered, Makita, Oleo-Mac, Red Max, Ryobi, Shindaiwa, Solo, Spear & Jackson, Stihl & Tanaka; all recommend 50:1.
1 gallon of premium fuel to 2.6 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
4 liters of premium fuel to 80 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
McCulloch, Poulan & Wen; recommend 40:1.
1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
4 liters of premium fuel to 100 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
Chinese chainsaws recommend 25:1.
