The battery is behind the front grille, you have to remove the screw in the middle and then pull out on the green plastic clips on each side then fold down

SOURCE: old john deere gator and battery new charger still will not move

Could be several things.  Your battery could be bad. After not being charged for a while, they do go bad- often. You may want to try a new battery along with your new charger.  You could also have a switch /connection problem. If you get a new battery and it still doesnt work, you may want to check the switches and wiring. It is not uncommon for the switch to go bad especially if it had been stored outside.

SOURCE: replace parts on ride-on toys

The gearboxes for both hummers and peg perego gators are under the back seat.
If you hear a clicking noise It is definatly the gearbox on the gator. The hummer gearboxes sometimes come loose from the motors, so it may be as simple as tightning the motor gearbox.
Here is how you take the gearboxes out from the gator.
1. disconnect battery
2. take hinge pins out from the dump bed to access the green cover plate.
3. take a flathead screwdriver and pry around the plastic cover to expose the gearboxes.
4. take the rear wheels off and remove the rear axle.
remove the motor gearboxes (they are interchangeable)
5. install the new gearboxes making sure the wires are secure and the wheels are going in the correct direction.
6. put back together.
7. hook up battery and your good to go!

How do i access the battery to charge it up?

Hello,

On a regular John Deere there are 2 small screws on the hood that must be removed and the hood lifts up. The battery has a cable that disconnects and the charger plugs into the end that goes to the battery. The connectors only go on one way, don't force it.

Hope this helps.

My sons john deere gator is dead do they send new batteries or chargers for it

first of all check for at least 12 volts from the battery and the charger, you can test this using a multimeter, if the battery doesn't show any volts, lift up one side of the blue plastic housing on the top and verify that both the positive and negative wires are plugged in, otherwise you can order a new one here www.powerwheelsoutlet.com
