Ouch, this is not what you like to see.

This is often caused by two things:

1. A virus
2. A bad disk drive

Since you cannot get into the computer your left with checking the disk drive. Disk drive manufactures have diagnostic programs you can download. On another computer, download Seagate disk tools from their web site. Burn a CD and boot your laptop with it. Run diagnostics.

If it says you don't have a Seagate disk, it will tell you the brand. Go to that brands web site, repeat above.

If you have a bad disk, then you need to replace it. On laptops it is fairly straight forward but you also need to restore your system. If you don't have restore disks, you'll have to buy them from the laptop manufacture.

Boot manager is missing HP pavilion dv6 notebook windows 7

This sounds like a common issue. The boot manager file "NTLDR" Can become corrupt or go missing due to a few situations.
1) Shut down improperly
2) Virus
3) Bad hard disk
4) Windows being windows.
Too fix this simply use a windows 7 cd and boot from it.
Choose the Repair option and let it do its thing. If i recall there's also a repair startup option you can use aswell.
Windows repair usually fixes the problem but if that doesnt work you can also put the hard disk into another computer and copy over replacement boot loader files.
""
  • ntldr, the main boot loader itself
  • NTDETECT.COM, required for booting an NT-based OS, detects basic hardware information needed for successful boot
  • ""
Try that. The windows repair usually works but if you have to use the alternative and it doesnt work it could be your MBR. Windows repair also fixes this but theres an old command you can run from the dos shell of the cdrom "mbrfix or fixmbr" That will take care of it.
    Good Luck :)

No operating system and when it turns on it says the boot manager is missing

If you have your settings in the bios to boot from your optical drive you should be able to insert your windows 7 disc and choose to boot from it then just follow instructions.

    Missing boot manager

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE.

To do this, follow these steps:

Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

Press a key when you are prompted.

Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    Click Repair your computer.

Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note To start the computer from the Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD, the computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive.

For more information about how to configure the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation that is included with the computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

    Bootrec.exe options

The Bootrec.exe tool supports the following options. Use the option that is appropriate for your situation.

Note Use the Bootrec.exe tool to troubleshoot "Bootmgr Is Missing" issue.

If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup issue, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again.

By doing this, you make sure that the BCD is completely rebuilt.

To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:

    bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

    c:

    cd boot

    attrib bcd -s -h -r

    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

    bootrec /RebuildBcd

    /FixMbr

The /FixMbr option writes a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This option does not overwrite the existing partition table.

Use this option when you must resolve MBR corruption issues, or when you have to remove non-standard code from the MBR.

    /FixBoot

The /FixBoot option writes a new boot sector to the system partition by using a boot sector that is compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Use this option if one of the following conditions is true.

The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows Vista or Windows 7 boot sector.

    The boot sector is damaged.

An earlier Windows operating system has been installed after Windows Vista or Windows 7 was installed. In this scenario, the computer starts by using Windows NT Loader (NTLDR) instead of Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

    /ScanOs

The /ScanOs option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Additionally, this option displays the entries that are currently not in the BCD store.

Use this option when there are Windows Vista or Windows 7 installations that the Boot Manager menu does not list.

    /RebuildBcd

The /RebuildBcd option scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Additionally, this option lets you select the installations that you want to add to the BCD store.

Use this option when you must completely rebuild the BCD.

    hope this helps

    Boot MGR IS MISSING

What actual operating system do you have?
Windows XP does not use the Boot Manager as this was introduced with Windows Vista or Windows 7 and higher versions.

If you are missing the Boot Mgr for Windows Vista or 7, then you will need to do a Startup Repair which you can do using either a Recovery CD if you have one, or else using the Vista or 7 installation disc.

Boot manager is missing and wont load windows 7 on compaq presario c700, no matter what i do it keeps returning to the boot manager missing press ctl alt dlt.screen how do i fix it

If your using a DVD to install the operating system, it could be either dirty (just needs a wipe) or the files on the disk are corrupt.

If you are getting this error while Windows 7 is starting up perhaps you can try doing a "repair". Boot off the DVD do a repair (not from the recovery console) and see if this helps.

    Hope this helps.
