It depends on a couple of things. Depending on the fabric you're using you might want to use a stabilizer like an iron on tear away. If the stitches are bunching the stitch length might be to tight. Try going to 0.3. if the stabilizer doesn't work. With the stabilizer on, it will keep the fabric firmer so it won't pucker. Make sure you have the decorative stitching foot on the machine with the little indentation for the satin stitch to ride in. If you have the wrong foot on, this will cause bunching too. Let me know if this helps.

What is the setting for satin stiches

Depends on your machine and the thread you are using. A satin stitch is a zig-zag with the stitch length set so the fabric is not visible between the stitches but the stitches do not overlap.

How to applique with my Quilters Dream sewing machine

You should practice on scrap fabric until you can get the technique down well. There are different kinds of applique.

To cover raw fabric edges, you can do a smooth line of zig-zag over the fabric edge. Set the stitch width to a wide stitch and shorten the stitch length until the thread lays nicely next to each other with no gaps of fabric showing but also not so close that the stitches are on top of each other. There are methods for turning corners or curves that are nice for making a great looking edge.

Elna machine puckers silk on zig zag stitching, Elna 2007

Yes, because a zig zag stitch is creating a wide stitch and the tension on the thread is going to pull the fabric within the seam together, you can't seam thin fabric with a wide zig zag. It will "tunnel together". If you are using this stitch to neaten a raw edge, then try using the serpentine or three step zig zag where the needle pierces the fabric 3 times in each leg of the zig zag, this will give better results.

I dont have the instruction manual and i cant figure out how to do a zig zag stitch? Help

You don't say the make and model of sewing machine. But generally zig zag is achieved by selecting the zig zig stitch on the stitch selector, then setting stitch length to 2 and stitch, width to between 3 and 4, depending on the fabric. If its a very light weight fabric 4 the thread will pull in and tunnel the fabric so turn down to narrow the width of the stitch.

How do I satin stitch h on a Bernina 1130s limited edition?

Satin stitch is a very wide zig-zag stitch with a very short stitch length. I do mine by dropping the feed dogs and guiding the material through by hand (a lot like darning).

Before you go changing settings... make sure you are stabilizing the fabric correctly. Towels especially requires a stabilizer on top AND on bottom.

I don't know how to make satin stich Janome DC2010

As a general rule of thumb, satin stitch is obtained by selecting zig-zag, turning stitch width up to 3 or 4 and stitch length to 0.5. If you have a clear plastic open toe sewing foot, put that on to help view the area.

If you are doing applique (attaching pieces of fabric to another surface) with a satin stitch, you may also need to use tear away stabiliser underneath or interface the fabric first, it depends on what/where you are doing the satin stitch onto.

And a nice machine embroidery thread will give you a much silkier appearance than plain thread.

My Elna SU will only do straight stitching it will not zig zag

I have the same model, have you turned the first knob on left, the stitch selector, to the stitch you want? Then turn the middle knob, the stitch width to "4". Use the colour guide marks shown in the little picture on left of the knobs so you are dialing up the right settings. So for the zig zag, elastic blind hem, scallop, overcasting and multi-stretch stiches, 1-6 on the diagram you'll be setting the left knob to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 respectively and the stitch width and length knobs to "green", you can vary the length and width to suit what you want.

Then for the cams, you need to set everything zero, turn stitch selector to 7, the cam setting. then turn the width to orange again (3-4) and the stitch lenth selector to the orange setting, right around the knob. This engages the "Elnagraph" the device under the flap on top of the machine to read the discs. Basically the green stitches the needle is swinging from side to side while the feed dogs move the fabric forward, making your zig zags, blind hems etc.
But when you engage the Elna graph, the machine matches stiches by moving the fabric "forward and backwards at certain times, while the needle does its thing from side to side. This is what makes elastic or stretchy type stitches because you are putting "stretch" into the seam by sewing forwards and backwards.

Please note: always turn your stitch width and length back to Zero BEFORE you make any changes to the left knob and select a new stitch as this saves on wear and tear to the moving parts in these wonderful machines.

I do hope this assists you and I haven't just told you stuff you already knew!

What are the settings for regular sewing, I do not have a manual. It has 3 knobs on the front and 1 on top? This might have something to do with my problems.

The three front dials are as follows....left to right-Stitch width, type of stitch, and stitch length. The dial on the top adjust the top tension.

For straight stitch you want 0 stitch width, straight stitch, 3 for stitch length.

For zig zag you want turn your stitch width to how wide you want the zig zag, choose zig zag stitch, and choose how close you want the stitches to be on the stitch length dial. Practice on a piece of fabric. Usually for zig zag you will want to loosen your top tension a little bit.
