Skype is very particular about webcams having the latest drivers (software that operates hardware)
If you uploaded your software from a CD it could be out of date

Go to the Gearhead support website and see if your webcam is still supported - if so, uninstall the current software and load the latest

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Have a Toshiba x200/x205 lap top with build in Chicony USB 2.0 Camera. Downloaded Skype and says its not supported. Webcam say's being used by another program. Help Please Thanks. Luci

Skype is very picky about webcam drivers -you will have to go to the Toshiba support website to download the latest driver.

Webcam software can remained hooked up to a previous program even if you exit that program correctly. Prior to launching Skype re-boot the webcam software by restarting your computer or disabling / enabling your webcam in The Device Manager.
Expand the 'imaging' folder and right click on the text of your webcam to access the menu

When i m using skype my laptop webcam notworking at all & message is there that ur webcam is not supported by skype or it is not skype certified webcam.

Then it is not supported.
You could try locate the latest drivers for your laptop.
If it says not skype certified webcam, not alot you can do other than buy a cheap webcam to use with skype.

Hi,

Please uninstall both your webcam and skype first and then reinstall the webcam drivers/software first and then skype.

skype can be a pain like this, you can try going into skype options and video settings and making sure your camera is choosen. if fails still try using some thing like many cams its a free webcam software with a tone of effects and so on works nice with skype yahoo or anything.

Try your webcam here, by hitting 'Allow' in the top window

Your webcam should broadcast in the left hand window.

If that is successful you know you can now configure it to Skype
Start Skype.
On the Tools menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click 'Audio Settings'.
Select your mic as the default microphone.
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click 'Video Settings'.
Select your webcam as the default.
Trim webcam image using 'Settings'
Click Save.
Test Cam by making a Skype test call.
