I can't press down on the right hand corner the screen is frozen and does not respond to touching the screen

  • srtangie Aug 22, 2010

I can't reset the gps the way you suggested because the screen is frozen and will not accept me touching the screen. The only way I can do anything is to turn it off with the button on top of the unit or the reset button on the back.

  • srtangie Aug 28, 2010

Neither of the solutions worked. When I tried to hold the right corner and turn the unit on it shows PREBOOT Mode Then loads maps and then I get Map Update Notice The touch screen is still frozon and will not respond to touching the screen anywhere.

I have tried your latest two solutions and neither work. Tried the power up holding the lower right hand corner and also went to 8garmin web site and down loaded the webupdater. My Garmin had the latest version but I reloaded again. I never had any problems until about a yr ago I got a message from garmin that I needed to update my maps from garmin. Since updating I have had the touch screen not working problem and the unit freezing and not loading maps. How do I reset my Garmin maybe even to a older version? Need some solution!

    Thanks, Srtangie

You will need to do a master reset and restart the unit to get the touch screen working again. To do this, start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON. Release the power button when the device powers ON You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data? Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays. Touch Yes. The device will automatically reset. Please follow the on screen prompts on the nüvi and when completed place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. It can take up to 30 mins to comelete the reset. Another thing you can do is click on this link below and run the "updater" This will update your systems firmware: http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

Hello,

I suggest you reset your GPS, to reset your gps, follow this steps, turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
Once the Garmin GPS unit is reset, remember to place the device outside where there is a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15 – 30 minutes in order for it to requires fix to GPS satellites. with this, this should fix the problem.

Take care.

I have a non-working Nuvi 650 with same problem. Garmin tech support says they do not support the Nuvi 650 and I will have to buy another one. My Garmin was only 2 years old when it failed.
I doubt I will be buying another Garmin.

Screen on my Garmin Nuvi 650 is frozen (no reaction to touch). Cna move through screens via the on/off button. Haven't updated maps...ever. Seems like most repairs will cost me $25 just in shipping. ...

The problem with the gps device is a minor one. First you ensure it is properly charged, then you reset it by holding down the power button for about 15 seconds, then it will restart and you will be able to touch the screen once again. If that does not work, then you need to calibrate the screen, take note that calibrating the screen does not just work the moment you try it, you need to try it repeatedly till you get it right. This is how to calibrate your nuvi:
  1. Turn off your nuvi,
  2. Press your finger on the upper left corner of the touch screen,
  3. While holding your finger on the touch screen for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen comes appears (white screen with touch dot),
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.
It is an easy fix. The solution above will help you out on that. Another solution is for you to remove the battery and fix it in back. That should also help.

No Map Data Available on Garmin nuvi350

Hi,

I would suggest you reset the unit,if that doesn't solve the problem, then you will have to update your garmin nuvi, I think its out of date and needs to be updated. Follow the procedures below on how to update your garmin nuvi:

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

Also, in case you don't know how to reset your garmin nuvi, you can follow the steps below: There are two types of reset;

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

1300 nuvi screen comes up loading maps and stops

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.
